Should I buy Oblivion? Or wait for Skyrim?

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 1:25 pm

Sadly I never played Oblivion, but I loved Fallout 3. Now that I've seen videos of Skyrim, it REALLY makes me want to play Oblivion too. Let me start by saying that EITHER WAY I WILL end up getting Oblivion eventually, I'm actually thinking about going and buying it tonight, and that's what the real question is.. Should I buy it tonight?

I work 10 hour overnight shifts from Sunday-Wednesday. Pretty much I'll end up playing a bit tonight after I buy it, and maybe an hour or so each day before work. Then I'll probably end up playing most of Thursday, with Skyrim coming out Friday. Is that enough time? I don't wanna get half way through Oblivion and then stop to play Skyrim. But I also don't wanna put off playing Skyrim just to finish Oblivion. I can't really find anywhere that gives me a decent timeframe. What do you honestly think? Should I pick up Oblivion tonight? Will I have time to enjoy it? Or should I just wait til I'm done with Skyrim.

Welcome to the forum...have a http://images.uesp.net/c/c4/Fishystick.jpg

If your anything like me a single playthrough can last for months, pending they don't die first. I wouldn't worry about getting very far in the game with just a few days to play. Either way, there is no reason NOT to get it and have fun while you wait for Skyrim.

Yeah I definitely like exploring when it comes to games like these. I just don't wanna start getting into the story and then stopping without finishing it. I might pick it up, just to have it. And I'll go back and play Fallout 3 until Skyrim comes out. At least I've already finished Fallout 3 so I won't mind stopping in the middle once Friday comes.

Is a week long enough to enjoy Oblivion? No way. You will not even scratch the surface.

Not enough time. Not even remotely. I think you'd need months or years for Oblivion.

If you are interested in Skyrim, I'd recommend you start with it. Then when you've played Skyrim so much that you want a slight change, maybe try Oblivion, and alternate.

Games like Oblivion, Morriwind, and hopefully Skyrim offer incredible amounts of game play.

Sadly I never played Oblivion, ...

Indeed that is sad. :sadvaultboy:

There's not a "story" to get into and to finish. I mean there is, but not like FO, where you complete it, and your done, "game over". Oblivion has a MQ but you don't even have to it, to enjoy the game. There are tons of side quests to keep you tied up for a week. You could go through a Faction questline in a week. That still would not affect the MQ, which doesn't end the game after you have completed it.

I have played for almost five years and still not done everything by a long shot :P

@OP: Oblivion is a great game and well worth your time and money. However, as Skyrim hasn′t been released yet no one can compare it to Oblivion and tell you which one to get ;)

No, definitely not. If you don't want to leave Oblivion "unfinished", you'll have to wait for Skyrim. I've played Oblivion for over 3 years, and I'm nowhere near done with it. If you only have a few days, then like Acadian said, you won't even scratch the surface. I recommend waiting for Skyrim and then trying Oblivion. (If you manage to turn Skyrim off, that is. I know I won't be able to for the first 24 hours.)

Wow,since Skyrim is only what? 5 days til release, you won't even scratch the surface on Oblivion. However,if you've never played an Elder Scrolls game before,Oblivion would be a good place to learn the basic mechanics of the series which would help when you start Skyrim so I would say yes,buy Oblivion and enjoy....you surely won't regret having the game :obliviongate:
