A new oblivion journey.

Hey everyone, i'm Spider or James, whichever you prefer to call me.
I'm aware Skyrim has just been released but i've some major issues with it.
Until i've learnt to mod it and until a sizable collection of mods have been released for it. So i can play it the way i imagined.

I've decided to replay oblivion with a new set of quest mods and a bunch of different cool things. So i came up with the crazy idea to write a journal of my new characters experience. I've always loved writing and i love the elder scrolls series so i thought this might be a good chance to improve my writing. Also it commits me to some sort of schedule and gives me something productive to do. Ontop of that it also gives me time to play Oblivion and relax whilst still getting something done.

I'm only going to do this though if there's people out there who are going to read it. So what do you guys think? Would you be interested in reading it?

Also, anyone know of any good websites to host my journal on?

Best regards. :)

If it's written using "goode olde england" English - no words more modern than what dikeens used - I would probably enjoy reading it.
But if it's written with modern day slang, most likely I would not.

I'm not sure that it's a good sign that you are only going to do this if "we" are out here to read it. Do it anyways - you will gain experience as you write and re-read it over a few times until you can feel that it's right and readers will too.

It would also be cool to make a mod where you find the journals of travelers that you pen for each adventure that you get into.
You write about the adventure/quest first hand - for real, as you do it. and place the books in game - like a walk-through.

Or do a photo journal with pictures as well.

There are many ways to put it on line, from free hosting to thousands of websites that are dying for material pages to use for advertising.
The more text pages on the website the more likely Google will bring someone there and see the ads as well.
You are assured website space for free writing.
All the Oblivion fan sites would likely post it and forums would be a great way to let every know - if you can deal with feedback that will range from wonderful to rotten

Start with an example of your player's experiences in getting out of the Imperial Prison when you start out thinking you are about to be executed and post here under spoilers. Then you'll get good feedback because every player has done that part.

Begin....

I enjoy reading this sort of thing. Some more, some less, depending on the author's style. Give it a go and let's see what happens!

Yeah, there are people out there who will enjoy reading that sort of thing. I like reading little snippets now and then about what people's characters are up to.

If you want to turn it into a full blown fanfiction/journal type thing, you could post it in that section of these forums - http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/forum/31-elder-scrolls-artwork-and-fan-fiction/
Or there is another website I go on occasionally where people post things similar to what you've described. It's called Chorrol.com and can be found http://chorrol.com/forums/index.php?act=idx. There's also a dedicated fanfiction section on that site where you can expect to receive feedback from the people reading your story.

Have fun with it! Writing about a character and really getting into the nitty gritty of what makes them tick is so rewarding. :foodndrink:

I find that allowing my character to write a detailed journal (Buffy's approaches a quarter million words and her current thread is linked in our signature) helps to really bring Tamriel to life. Some of the events take place in game, some are courtesy of mods and a great number of her adventures are pure fiction or inspired loosely by things in the game. We find that writing and playing mutually inspire each other.

You will find that our own SubRosa, Grits, Thomas Kaira, King Coin and others post their wonderful efforts on the same forum that I use.

It becomes a different kind of game when your character can recite the rich life histories of many of the NPCs in the game that are important to her. We find it quite fun to blur the lines between game and imagination. For example, did you know that there are five women in Cyrodiil that ride the majestic black horses? Buffy and four young Bretons who ride for the Courier. Buffy and Rianele ride mares. Miliele, Surani and Lielle ride stallions.
