Skyrim and Game of thrones similarities

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 10:46 am

I had a conversation about this earlier today with some friends. It hit us that the Empire are like the Lannisters (look at their armor colors!), and that the Stormcloaks are like the Starks, if you ignore the whole dragonborn thing.

What do you think? Discuss.

I don't think its' that literal, but there are plenty of court/family/national/religious politics going on that reminds me of the drama in GoT.

I love it.

I'd be disappointed if they DIDN'T draw inspiration from such a great story, but that said, I don't think there are that many similarities.
But in certain ways, it compares, sure. Being Scandinavian, it reminds me a lot of the saga's we read in school. Gives a very viking feel.

Hadn't really made that particular allusion....but I have had a few other "Wow, like A Song of Ice and Fire / Game of Thrones!!!" moments. The Draugrs make me think Others/White walkers (glowey blue eyes of doom!). The giants and mammoths. I keep thinking "Riverrun" when I see "Riverwood".

I guess that would technically make the Thalmor into the Others: While the Jarls squabble over the throne, the Thalmor are preparing to swoop down and wreck everyone.
