So Many Items to Sell but So Poor Shopkeepers

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 5:56 am

All the shop keepers seem to have rubbish amounts of money I can only sell one item at a time before they run out

Where is the best places to sell and are there any ways to boost how much money they have (apart from being level 70 speechcraft, im only 35)

Couldnt agree more... after the Oblivion disaster you think they would have learned (and hey, at least in Oblivion they didn't actually run out of gold, just had a per-item cap).

I have yet to find a vendor with more than like 1,100 gold, it's a poor design imo. Waiting for a simple creeper-type mod with a vendor with [censored]-tons of money :P

This is why I have been getting perks in the left side of the Speechcraft tree; there's one to invest 500 gold in vendors (Investor) and the final perk is Master Trader, which adds 1000 more gold to every shop keeper in Skyrim automatically, allowing every vendor to have AT LEAST 1500 gold.

If you join the Thieves Guild you get access to a fence, once guild master she has 3k gold, fence in Markath has 4k gold.

If you are on a computer simply open your command thing(hit key above the tab key) After you hit it click on the shopkeeper(he should have numbers pop up on him) type: additem f #

Where # is the amount of gold you want

Example: additem f 5000

I think they just want huge purchases to be kinda difficult...plus it justifies the speechcraft perks that give merchants more money if everyone is poor by default.

*edit*
I kinda like how difficult it is to make money in this game. Usually I woulda had infinite money by now in Morrowind or Oblivion :P

Eventually I said screw it and just stopped looting because I knew it would take longer to sell everything than it would to ransack through a couple caves.

I find that I can offload more loot in Whiterun than anywhere else

Spoiler

2 smiths on the bottom level of the town (1 outside usually working the forge and 1 inside the Warmaiden store behind the counter, each with separate barter money)
1 smith on the upper level of town if you join the Companions
1 hunting shop which will buy some weapons and armor
3? stalls in the market
1 Alchemist shop
1 Pawnbroker
1 Mage at Dragonsreach who will buy magic items and some clothing
Plus you can sell food and drink at the inn

That's the best I've found so far

The best way to boost their cash without Speech perks is just to buy stuff you might need before selling loot - I usually pick up cure disease potions and ingredients, and look for weapons or armor with enchantments that I don't yet know so that I can disenchant them to learn it.

Me too, but we shouldn't have to waste 5 perks just so the merchants get more money...

I end up doing what Epona described a lot of the time.

"Oh, you've got some empty soul gems...I guess I could use that..."
"I guess I can sell that gem later..."
"I can always turn Iron Ore into gold ore..."

It's a pain but @ the end of the day it boosts speechcraft and saves me time in the real world. I'm okay with it.

You can just fast travel around the different towns to sell off all your stuff - because the respawn time for the merchant inventories is based off of in-game time, you can just keep going around the loop to get more people to sell to...

But basically, they reduced Speechcraft down to nothing but a "gets merchants to buy more things" gimmick, and basically make you take it if you want to offload your goods.

There are already many complaints about worthless perks and what not so I think the fact that you wish shopkeepers had more money justifies the need for this branch of the Speech left side perks.

By the way best thing to do as you are leveling is find a shopkeeper which also trains. You can get some training which will load them up with gold to buy your stuff!
