"Prophet Returns" Observation - CE2 compatible with CE3?

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 7:58 pm

So I was watching the "Prophet Returns" Trailer and I noticed something interesting: Although it seems as though the trailer shows genuine footage of Crysis 1, there are some interesting inconsistencies. Look up the trailer and go to 0:48 and 0:53. As you can see, those look like gameplay clips from the first Crysis.
Well, they are and they aren't.

0:48 and 0:53 show what looks to be like the opening scene for the C1 level "Relic". (The one where the Alien grabs Prophet) However, there's some stuff wrong with this footage in the trailer.
First off, I will show you some genuine Crysis 1 screenshots of that very cutscene in Crysis 1 (Taken by me via Steam's new screenshot feature! :D)

This is what the Normal Scene Background looks like:

Now here it is with Prophet, with his suit that begins to malfunction:

Now here is this exact pic but in the Prophet Returns Trailer. (at 0:48) Notice the frozen ground, and the lack of trees.

This is at 0:53 in the trailer, when the Alien drags him away:

And this is where the Alien Drags him away in Crysis 1. It's hard to see, but the Alien Drags him off to the left instead of straight forward.

As you can see, there are some pretty major differences. My guess is that they have imported all of the old Cryengine 2 Data of Crysis 1 and put it into the Sandbox 3 Editor and done a little re-mapping. Not 100% solid evidence that you can import things from CE2 into CE3, but it sure points in that direction.

Post Edit: FIXED! For Future Reference, use an image size of 500 x 400. Anything bigger and the sight freaks out.

Seems like some pretty convincing evidence, but it could still have been taken from a beta build or an older trailer of Crysis 1. Looking forward to seeing if you can import stuff.

True. The trailer is fairly new, however, so it's probably not on old build that they were showing. I mean, they may of had it in some stash of Cryengine 3 footage that was never released, but it's unlikely. If Cryengine 2 Stuff CAN be imported, I'm gonna make myself an overgrown, post apocalyptic, jungle-city hybrid. :D

Its been known for quite a while that the CryEngine 3 allows for older versions of the engine to be ported over to it.

Crytek has old CryEngine 3 videos back from GDC 2009 that shows a ported Crysis map running simultaneously on all three platforms. ;)

It can be ported only if you have the entities from the CE2 map.

Yeah, that was my problem before as well. Use a image size of 500x400. It's pretty much as big as the pic can get before cutting off the sides of message board. =P

Isn't CE3 just a optimized CE2 with extra features (deferred lighting, GI, DX11 support.....etc).
From what I've seen so far you can make jungle maps for CE3 and they look pretty much the same as in Crysis 1.
