Screenshots and Windows 7

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 2:05 pm

I have been playing and modding Oblivion and Morrowind for many years, and always enjoyed making screenshots ingame.

However, some weeks ago, I got a new computer with Windows 7. I installed my games in a Games folder, to prevent problem when modding.
Now I am unable to make screenshots ingame.

I HAVE changed the bAllowScreenshots setting to 1 in the ini-file in MyGames Oblivion, so that is not the problem.
I have *not* changed the setting in the Oblivion_default.ini in the Oblivion folder, but this I assume should not be changed.

Am I missing something? Is it related to how my game is installed? I never had a problem with this before and I simply don't understand what I might be doing wrong.

Changing ini stuff has never worked for me either. But for screenshots/movies I use FRAPS. A very simple and very good (free) program :)

Thank you :)

Actually, I continued to search for information, and ran into a very good tutorial on TESNexus: http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/How_to_create_screenshots_using_Oblivion

And I found the reason for my problems:

5. If you still cannot create screenshots, it may be related to your particular video card and anti-aliasing being enabled. Once in the game, go into your video options and disable anti-aliasing (set to zero). But you can force Oblivion in your graphics driver to use antialiasing. So you have nice graphics and can make screenshots.

I turned off antialiasing, and can now make screenshots. So I guess I'll start using FRAPS for this, as I do like the antialiasing.

FRAPS is just as good imo, have fun with it :)

Myself I tried to disable borders with the ini stuff as I hate You cannot go that way. Turn back. Didn′t work at all. Not even an error message.

I have always preferred FRAPs over the built in screenshot method. You may have to change which key does the Quick Load though. FRAPS uses the same key to take screens or record video.

Just out of curiosity, why is this? Are the screenshots better quality?

Not better quality. But you can choose the output format, and the output folder. Plus FRAPs can do other things, like take benchmarks, and record videos. I also use it exclusively for taking screenshots in all my games.

I'm curious as to what GPU you have Emma. Both my computers house fully functional Oblivion installs. One sports an AMD/ATI 6950 2gb (factory overclocked), the other an Nvidia GTX470. Neither have a lick of trouble capturing images via the game's Print-Screen function.

For the reasons SubRosa stated and it works the same way for every game. I don't have to bother with settings edits (I know, a real hardship, but I'll skip it if I can anyways). I can take several quick screen shots without a message appearing in the top left corner. I haven't had that anti aliasing problem ever either.

You shouldn′t get that. I have several pics and in none of them is the number showing. I think there may be an option to turn it on/off. You′ll still have the number showing on the screen, but not in the pic.

Like mirocu said, it should show up in one of the corners. You can change the corners, or turn it off completely just by double-clicking the FRAPs icon in your taskbar, then going to the FPS tab. http://www.fraps.com/faqver2.php#fps

You need to change some settings then. That's really odd since by default it shouldn't put the counter in any of the screens. Where did you DL it from?
