Restoring old saves from USB HDD

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 9:33 am

Hi all, been playing Skyrim and its good and all but it made me realise that I miss Oblvion which I never finished in the first place. On a USB HDD i have a backup of my install folder with all my mods and the Oblivion folder that is stored in "My Documents" that holds the save game files and the .ini file etc etc.

My question is: do I stand any chance of getting the game up n running again and carrying on from where I left off?

Atm I'm thinking of just copying the install folder across and put the Oblivion saves & ini file folder back in "My Documents", maybe need to get the Mod Manager tool back again and install Microsoft .NET framework or whatever the hell its called. Am I good to go after that or is there something else I should be doing?

Thx in advance. Sorry if this has been asked a squillion times before. :)

Did you uninstall fully, or just remove the files to the offline disk? If it's the latter, then all the registry entries should be intact, so if everything goes back to the same place you're OK.

I copied the entire install folder to the offline drive because I reformatted my puter... so copying the install folder back over won't work?

We have to sleep some time.

If you did a complete reformat of the computer, then the registry data for the game is lost, so the appropriate thing to do is to re-install Oblivion (using the same folder names, probably the defaults) and then overwrite that installation from your backup.
