What are the main technical differences between CryENGINE 2 and CryENGINE 3?

Besides support for consoles.

I believe it's the improved SDK like sandbox 3, Graphical features like Deffered lighting, global illumination, tessellation and DX11 features all in real time, no pre-baked lighting or shadows

Multiplatform support, you can port your games into the XBOX 360? and the PlayStation 3?

Multi-Core support, so this time the game will use up to 8 cores on your CPU for maximum performance

Performance anolysis tool, in which you can see how much resources does your game uses and you can set up a limit and it will warn you when you pass that limit

Also Cryengine 3 has a New 3D engine that allows it to Produce Stereoscopic 3D with just 1.4% performance impact

CryEngine 3 is multiplatform. That is the main difference.

You could do that in CryENGINE 2 too.
