Is Fallout NV free of major bugs now? Should I buy it on Ste

O jesus.... The game isnt a failure. FFS! So it was released with a few bugs, boo hoo. What game isn't?

I too have the collector's edition which i pre-ordered. I got somewhere around 160hrs in this game with maybe 5 to 6 desktop crashes. The few ppl still experiencing problems after 2 patches can only point to problem in their own system. Maybe ATI's drivers just svck? They certainly have in the past. And NO one is going to tell you it's free of bugs..... because it's not... again... what game is?

So it is my own fault that I am experiencing CTD's, which only started after the second patch was released, before that I had 45 hours without a single crash. It's been nearly 3 weeks since I last heard from bethesda support, if it is a flaw on my system they should have been able to find it when I provided them with all the information they have requested, such as dxdiag and msinfo.

You are however right since these people are master programmer, even the problems on the console versions is user related, there is no way developers such as Obsidian could possibly fail at creating their very first open world game. Judth2 isn't having problems so it can't be related to the game, the evidence is there for all to see.

Tha'ts great for you but I hope nobody would discount it as a possible source of their problems because it is still helping some people. As of the last patch even the listing of this file on newvegasnexus- the up-loaders recommends against using. Just because it's working for you does not mean people having problems should not try to rule it out as a possible source of some of their difficulties post patch. It is known to be able to cause problems in the latest version for both nvidia and ati cards and both the upload listings contain notices to try the game without it first.

Obviously if someone removes it and does not notice an improvement well then it wasn't the source of their problems- but that should be one of the things they check.

I have no disagreement with any of that reasoning, but it also applies in reverse. I was only slightly objecting to your original post, where your wording was different and made it sound like the .dll no longer worked at all...the phrase you used was "The last patch also rendered the 3rd party DLL people had already downloaded unusable."

Computers being the wonky things that they are, blanket statements such as that are often not true as an absolute. Hence why I said it may no longer work for some people, but there are others where the patch fixed nothing and the .dll still does/may work if the patch didn't improve the fps issue for them. :)

The latest patch broke the game for me.

I get the keyboard freeze out for controls that open news screens and the weapon reload 15 second lock out. I'd like to just remove the patch but can't.

I haven't been able to place since.

So,...., since I don't think it is worthwhile to buy it now for Christmas presents, I guess I would recommend waiting till it's cleaned up better.

It's not a help that there is a DLC planned on the Xbox - and only the Xbox - for Dec 21 - since that may drive the focus to Xbox performance improvement rather than and possibly even at the expense of PC performance improvement.

Too bad. I was having a good time there for a while.

NO it is still far from being fixed (Even after 3 patches) If you like paying for a Beta Game with issues, Then go right ahead. You will have no one to blame but yourself.

Well - it's not a game breaking bug I know, but I'm experiencing the bug where the reload animation for manual loaders (357 magnum revolver) breaks the weapon until you click the attack button (which doesn't shoot the weapon either)

Now yeah, you could say, it's not game breaking so it's not really a big deal. Fair enough for you maybe.

But for me, I like the 357 and I want to use it, and this minor bug is SOOO FRUSTRATING I just don't want to play the game.

Yeah i can play it, but i can't enjoy it. And that's the crux of the issue for me. I haven't played more than an hour or two since the last patch as it's so annoying, and I'm not sure I will play anymore until it's *properly* fixed (there is a community fix that sort of fixes it, but it breaks the animation afaik)

So yeah - be prepared to encounter minor bugs that may frustrate you into not playing the game.

Based on the mixed replies I'm going to hold off and play some other games. Why pay full price for a buggy game?

Thanks for the help, everyone.

Best,

I have also been playing on PC, no major bugs, and really if there were bugs, we could just fix them

Bah you're completely right- I need to remember to use qualifiers like "some" and not just think them in my head. Thanks for pointing that out.

Yeah besides the reloading animation issue (which I found a mod that mitigates) I haven't had many issues on my main system that weren't readily corrected thanks to it being the PC version. My other system seems to suffer from an unlucky combination of hardware components and OS version that cause Gamebryo to throw a tantrum. If you've had no major problems with Fallout 3 then chances are you are probably with the vast majority who won't encounter the major stability issues. The rest of the bugs, for the most part, can be adressed by asking the community or will likely be adressed in the upcoming patch.

If you did and do have significant issues running Fallout 3 on your machine then I would say you should be prepared to do some troubleshooting for Fallout New Vegas. Still, people here are usually more than happy to help people work through different methods for getting around any peculiar tantrums that Gamebryo may decide to throw.

All in all though it is a really great game but does have some annoying bugs here and there that you will probably encounter. There are also some engine issues which you will most likely not experience the brunt of, but if you do they can be quite frustrating. If you're worried about your setup I'd suggest either posting it and asking if people with that setup or one as close to exactly like it are having issues. If you get a dozen people over a couple hours saying "OMG I'm dying here" or whatever then you have your answer. You probably wouldn't get too many "yeah it runs fine on my setup like that" responses because they're probably not on here since they're too busy playing so both positive responses and a lack of responses could be a good sign.
