Ascendant necromancer owning me....

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 4:19 pm

I'm on the azura star q I've come up against this guy he is kicking my [censored], one shotting me like I don't exist.

Im level 28, one handed/ destro hybrid using light armour. Tried all the normal tricks, steadfast ward, summon dremora, frost resist pots, but he is battering me to the point I'm starting to think my build is crap.

Anyone else have trouble with him? I even equipped a shield with 20% magic resist, which didn't do much really.

At first he was a pain but I had a companion to help me and I used my summons to distract him. Then once he wasn't paying attention to me I summoned a sword to help me finish the fight.

That guy killed me quite a few times too. Tried blocking with wards, but they drain magicka so fast they're hardly worth it in most fights. And I don't think the perk that gives more magicka when blocking magic with wards works at all.

I ended up using my bow for the most part, and darting behind walls to heal. Melee was pretty much out as an option at least until he was relatively low health, he spammed ice bolts at me so quickly that I was near death just running up to him.

Are you guys talking about Malyn inside the crystal? I am about to fight him.
I got to the part where I was asked to go in, and I said give me time to prepare and haven't had the guts to try since then. I leveled up since then and am at level 26 now hoping I'm powerful enough to try it.

No, I there's a Ascendent Necromancer in the dungeon where Malyn's former body is housed that is pretty tough. Malyn is difficult too though, and he's got Dremora helping him. If you have Banish, try using it. I had to kill them one at a time, saving in between in case I died. Malyn himself wasn't as bad as this Necromancer was for me though.

Ok thanks guys seems he is meant to be a pain in the rear passage then, I thought I'd done my usual rpg trick of avoid build information and go with what I think, only to create a character that is not very good for any situation!

Oh the dungeon with the necros and skeletons. If it helps anyone my setup was Bound Bow, Sneak and Throw Voice. It really makes things less hectic. As for Malyn, I'm thinking I'll need to level up once more because I can get a perk that banishes stuff with the Bound Bow, but I need one more point to unlock it.

Sounds like archery is a tree I need to invest in. This levelling system is stress lol, I've got a few points in about 7 trees, can I still rescue my build or is it too late?

That should work well then, all Malyn servants are Dremora. It'll be just you and him if all goes well.

One thing though that I'm not certain of. Malyn says to you when entering his realm that the place is pretty much his own little slice of Oblivion. Therefore, it's possible that the inside of Azura's Star IS the homeplane of the Dremora. That would mean Banishment might not be possible. This is a far off possibility though, I very much doubt that they bothered to cover such a small possibility and I'm uncertain as to how they term Banishment and it's uses. What I'm describing is sort of a D&D interpretation of the fact that when traveling to other planes, banishment of native beings doesn't work because its you that is the extraplanar invader.

Again, what I described is very far off and not likely :D

It is hard to say what route you should take. But finding a long range solution to at least have available for your character to fall back on is probably a good idea.
My character cannot survive a close encounter so for me it is pretty bad in areas where I don't have the option to attack from a distance. Which is something I'm going to have to think about real hard soon enough. :cryvaultboy:

Yeah my main concern is putting perks into too many areas and not ending up competent in any. For example I started out wearing heavy armour and spent 3 perks on it, then realised light armour would be better for my playstyle, thus 3 wasted perks. Iveput some in alchemy, smithing, enchanting, light armour, one handed and destruction, I have 3 saved up. At level 28 I don't want to restart, it's a tough call as to what to do lol...

Your options could be archery or destruction magic or even the right shouts.
Try this link for shouts that could help long range.

Was sure its was my pure warrior melee build that was the problem, i dont know what to think when the mages and sneaky build got the same problem.

Seems he is a tough adversary and we need to use wits alongside our chosen builds.

Thanks for the advice guys, and regarding shouts I have got stuck in my ways and only use the fire breath, perhaps I can change that, it's partly due to the fiddly interface I stuck to 2 or 3 loadouts.

I have a save right by him so later on when I beat him I'll post the method I used in the end in case anyone is wondering.

I hope they put a resPec option in dlc!
