Poisoning Arrows

Post » Wed Sep 30, 2009 7:06 am

I love playing a poison user, but I find the whole F2-click, click, fight . . . F-click, click, fight . . . to be rather game breaking. Is there an easier way that I have just missed?

If I have 20 poisons in my inventory and hotkey them, won't that just make me consume them? Not sure I ever tried that.

As counterintuitive as it sounds, you are actually poisoning your bow, not your arrow. Just the way the game works. Once you poison the bow, you have to shoot it before you can poison it again.

I imagine hotkeying a stack of poisons would work though and smooth/speed the process, thereby perhaps helping with your immersion concerns. It would certainly be easy enough to try/test.

I manually repoison the bow each time from my inventory so I have not tried hotkeying a stack of poisons. I find one poison is enough for a single target, and when faced with multiple targets that are likely to detect me, I tend to 'illusion' them down to just one target before shooting.

Sorry.

Do you mean if I hotkey poison it will allow me to auto-poison each shot after I shoot the preceding shot by hitting the hotkey?

Sure, if you have a lot of the same poison.

You will need to poison indiviudally, but for the record, enchanting a bow can do the same thing.
When a bow is enchanted, every single time you fire (presuming it has enough charge) the arrow that is shot will be given the bow's enchantment.

So, if you can, either gain access to the Arcane Uni manually, or use some kind of mod to let you gain access to an Altar of Enchanting.
Put down a plain bow, then enchant it with Damage Health, Damage Fatigue, Poison, Weakness to Poison, Paralyze etc., and presto! You've got a bow that can shoot "poisoned" arrows easily.

In vanilla Oblivion (no mods) you cannot enchant a weapon with 'poison' or paralize at the altars.

Most of us use enchanted bows and apply a poison to them for individual shots when warranted.

You don't need a mod for those. At the enchanting altar, choose your damages, and play with the amount of damages, versus the amount of uses. You need a weapon and a Grand Soul Gem, for the max number of uses before re-charging.

Ah, so since there is not a "Poison Blast" spell you cannot enchant a bow to be "Poison Bow," but I suppose you could enchant it to have "Weakness to Poison."

Just got my character access to Arcane Uni (Just about the same time she broke that 50 Armorer level!) and looking forward to lots of enchanting gear! :)

You can indeed do the weakness to poison. I did that with one of the bows that my Mazken character Aerin used for a while. I was never sure if the poison takes effect before the weakness does, so you might to poison the second shot, rather than the first. Poisons stack, even if they are the same kind, if you have plenty of them, just poison ever shot you take.

Weakness to poison on a bow would not affect the first shot. Due to a glitch in the game tested out by our own Savlian, it will not work on the second or subsequent shots either (even though it should). Again, it is due to a malfunction, but you would have to switch bows between shots to make it work. If you would care to test it, simply enchant a bow with weakness to poison 100%x5sec, poison the bow and go hunting poison immune creatures (ghosts in undercrofts are easy for this). Bottom line is, weakness to poison on a bow is, in my humble opinion, a poor choice.

Preceeding a poisoned bow shot with a weakness to poison spell that lasts long enough to still be in effect when your poisoned bow strikes however, works quite well. Note that this poison immune ghost has had his immunity busted by a spell and is quite green. He will die in a few more seconds from poison. This was done by preceding the shot with a weakness to poison spell: http://i668.photobucket.com/albums/vv43/Acadian6/Buffy%20I/ScreenShot94.jpg

(Buffy remained safely undetected for all this because both her weakness to poison spell and her bow include a drain speed 100x1sec component.)

Disappointing that that glitch prevents a weakness to poison bow. Kinda gamey that "speed" is what makes you get detected. I mean shouldn't it actually be some kinda combination that of all the attributes that might influence awareness. Maybe something like intelligence, willpower, agility, speed?
