Anyone here ignored the main quest?

100+ hours and I've only gone so far as to get the Whirlwind Rush shout from the Graybeards. I didn't even go up to the other guy they mention.

I'm 51 hours in, level 29 and I haven't even talked to the NPC in Riverwood yet. I plan to soon though, I have a Horse, a house in Markarth, I've joined up with the Legion and I think it's about time I dealt with this Dragon situation.

I find it really hard to stay focused in this game though, every few minutes something will happen, a dungeon, a quest or some other event and I'll get swept away and on and on it goes : P

Good times.

Quick question;

In most games like this it is easy to bump into a quest, town or people that can break the main quest (or at least make it more confusing to complete).

Also, NPCs tend to make references to things that the game "assumed" you have already done.

Does that break the immersion for you main quest avoiders or does that not happen often in this game?

R

(I play these games for the story, but I do lots of side quests and take my time... I must admit that I am a little worried about running into too many dragons later. Hopefully this may be patched since so many people are complaining about the frequency.)

Ignored the "Main Quest"?

Nah, it's on the 'To Do' list.

But as this is "Skyrim" that list has become the "Alot To Do" list.

Small question... How do you recognize Main Quests in the quest menu? Because I see a Misc section which are probably side quests but in the section above the mid section I see different logos before and after the quest name, but I cannot seperate them in some kind of logic way... Can someone help me?

I think that this is the best way for me to play, save the main quest till last. Because if I finally defeat the big bad evil, I will lose interest in the game.

In every roleplaying game I ever played I have always hated having too many quests in my quest log. I took a break from the main quest (just visited the Greybeards and that's it) to clean up some side quests. That was about 15 levels ago. I am now level 25 and I somehow keep getting more and more side quests. I think I need to roleplay a mute so I don't have to talk to everyone that walks by me.

They should allow side quests to be hidden from the list...

I too have been distracted with side quests, although I'm trying to keep to the main quest when I can - I know I know there isn't right way to play the game, but sometimes in Elder Scrolls games I have found lots of wierd interaction with NPC, missing out on certain dialogues, certain opportunities since I didn't complete a certain task from the main quest yet, so yeah Im doing what I want but trying to not let the main quest be the LAST THING I do lol.

Thank you for proving that I'm not alone in this matter. A second reason for me to disregard the MQ is finding the words for unlocking the shouts. I have a lot, but have been looking for Fus Ro Da.

Bad luck has left me still with Fus. It's probably tied to the MQ, then. Many dungeons are very impressive, and I can't compare them to Oblivion because it would be cruel. And they are all scary.

Also, NPCs tend to make references to things that the game "assumed" you have already done.

Does that break the immersion for you main quest avoiders or does that not happen often in this game?

It hasn't happened at all. Scratch that, sometimes I get notes that say: "I was impressed with your performance at x. Please go to y dungeon, there is something good for you there" - Anonymous

But nothing specific is revealed. No one is going to say, "it's the hero of Kvatch! I'm glad to meat you," if you avoid the MQ.

I am a 100 hours in, have just decided to do the main quest line and now find I am having problems, it seems I have triggered the a done Flag for one area of a certain temple in the main quest line while Ive been exploring, now my NPCs will not progress to the next part, they have just stopped Halfway through the quest.

Be aware that free roaming it seems can make the game un-completable, too easy to trigger something and break the game play.

I'm a level 18 and have put about 20 hours into the game and I'm the arch mage of the college of winterhold and still haven't touched the main quest. I might not even touch it with my pure mage. I'm not really happy with the mage archtype so I'm seriously thinking about restarting the game as a pure warrior and doing the main quest with that character.

I've got 2 games going, one at home and one at work (fireman, lots of free time). The one at work, I've not done *any* of the main story (aka haven't returned the dragon stone yet). So I have no drangons anywhere ! which is nice, since I'm a level 40 with over 60 hrs in and 11 MB save file with no lag. But my home one has a bigger save, less hrs in and has ALLOT of lag.

But the lack of dragons is awesome, I've got nearly all shouts (but cant use them, I don't really use them on the game anyways (except sprint when I'm over loaded)).
