What has been your most annoying battle yet?

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 10:47 pm

Here I am traversing the mountains east of Azuras shrine, searching for dragons and priceless artifacts; then all of a sudden in the corner of my eye I see a possible dragon perch, maybe there's some new loot for my to plunder there as well. So I start making my way uptowards the perch (ignoring the "path" to my dismay later on) and the elder dragon ends up noticing that he has a unwelcome guest.... or lunch. Queue the badass boss music, it's time for a fight! What's this that happens next? OH [censored] SON NO YOU DIDN'T! The elder dragon actually uses its terrain to his(or her) advantage, never landing close enough for me to land melee hits, constantly picking new spots to land as I make my way up to him. Then to my utter dismay more dragons appear. Two to be exact. One blood dragon and of course....... another elder dragon (...sigh) So all 3 of them bombard me with their unholy breathes but luckily for me the gear I aquired from my adventures helped out a lot... atleast while I was alive (as you may have guessed, I died :brokencomputer: ) 50 some potions later, two dead dragons dead before me, my character finally bites the dus...snow.

Of course I tried to type this out so it seems remotely enjoyable to read :P but the fight lasted a good 10-ish minutes which was mainly my hiding behind rocks, spamming potions/healing spells, dragon rending one down (while the other two attack me from the air). Reason why it was so annoying was primarily because whenever they landed, it was in a place where I couldn't reach them (unless I used my magical horse >.>) and of course because this was my DiD character :(. So a good 8 minutes was me running, drinking, healing and dodging while the other two minutes was my trying to get as much damage as a possibly dish out........ Atleast he died epicly as a dragonborn should.

I svcked at fighting the fire, ice and electric conjurers while doing Sanguine's quest at the fortress near Windhelm.
They summoned a frost atronach too. Then I triggered a trap which blew a wall of fire at me...
Also I had to use a lot of health and stamina potions when I slaughtered the Boethiah worshippers :banghead: but they gangbanged me twice..

I hate it when dragons fly up mountains and youre trying to scramble the cliffface to get their attention before they kill another innocent,
all the while angily muttering: "I Need levitation, I Need levitation.."

Awesome that these dragons actually do stuff like that, use terrain.

To me there hasn`t been such a thing as "annoying fight". :D The hardest and the most time consuming fight was against a Draughr Deathlord who`s arrows 1-shotted me with every hit and there was no way for me to melee against him. It was a dungeon which made the situation even harder.
Eventually figured out that he fancied to fight only with his bow if I didn`t get closer, and stayed behind a wall and quickly moved in to get him to shoot me, and moved back even quicker to dodge the shot, after that quickly moved in again to shoot him once, then repeat for about 15 times. :D

So I'm a thief in his 30s. I've been neglecting the main quest so I finally decide to continue. So for the quest I have to basically ditch my gear. Just as I get everything removed and put my party clothes on. Wham. Dragon attack. Of course, the dragon came right for me. I whipped out both of my destruction spells and unloaded it all right in his face. The dragon thanked my for the light show and had a tasty lunch.

Fast traveled to the Atronach Stone once. Never again. When I did I spawned two dragons (only one attacked, the other flew off), a Fugitive, a Frightened Woman, and some Companions fighting bandits all at the same time.

Ended up having to reload and kill that damn Fugitive before he talked to me, because he would get me killed by the dragon. :P

Yes, until you realise the [form] can cause fear by pressing Z...then it's a hell of a lot easier.

I disliked the silverhand leader shortly after that chain though, mainly because he hit harder than anything else in the game by a mile up until that point.

I assume it was a glitch, but my orc in full dragon bone plate and full health at level 30 died to one arrow in the ass from a death lord, man that was hilarious. I didn't even see him in the room and took the arrow in the ass and went flying about 12' dead.

any fight where I'm disarmed is impossible.

If my weapon doesn't just disappear, then my companion will pick it up and use it for himself. I can't ask him to trade it back during combat, so I have no weapon for the fight.

Vampires, what with their unholy melee damage, poison resistance, regeneration voodoo, resurrecting their dead companions and not triggering pressure plates. Usually when I'm in a dungeon with traps I just troll everything onto them and watch them get sliced like a non-penitent man in search of the Holy Grail. Doesn't work with vampires.

Krosis and Blood Dragon tag-team at level 25.

I'm an assassin, so a Blood Dragon is quite enough.

One of the Draugr head honchos in a dungeon...those guys are tricky bastards. This one kept disarming me and making me drop my weapon...

And also giants...buggers are hard to take down even with help, and they CHASE YOU. RUUUUUN!

Daedra in the Azura's Star quest. I have low base health, no resistances, etc. They have BIG area-of-effect spells, the area is narrow, no place to hide, it was a nightmare.

Best thing about this thread this that there are so many different answers. A sign of a good challenging game.

I can't WAIT to get to some of these fights y'all talking about!!

I have slaughtered many many things so far, and have only had 2 fights where I had taken so much damage I had to back off and drink pots and perhaps change tactics....usually I just rush in and beat 'em to death. It is over in just a few seconds(including the 2 dozen or so Dragons-too easy imo, but that is on another thread). The 2 tough fights that I had to range down was the Daedra in Azura's Star....I was getting nuked before I realized it! I ran back to the start, drank some pots and pulled out the bow and did the ol' bob and weave....something I have done since forever in Oblivion, FO, etc.
And the other toughy was when I stumbled upon a camp of ...Hargren? the Harpy-types. I had ranged casters hitting me from 4 or 5 directions, and I was pinned with only 2 avenues of approach and a cliff face behind me. That was a beast of a fight until I could find their flank and then it was a matter of dodging their nukes as they popped out from the forest. Stupid trees kept blocking my sightlines so I had a tough time getting 1 in the crosshairs, then another would pop out from the side and nuke me again, and by that time, the first one had moved.....oi. Took awhile, but a GOOD fight!

My most annoying fight so far was against a single blood dragon that kept flying off every time I transformed into a werewolf. I wanted to try out my new powers but every time I went into the transformation he would fly off and fight the nearby mammoths. I finally had to kill it the old fashioned way; with flame atronach and arrows.

My most challenging fight was against Raghot(?) and his friends in the Dragon Priest temple. I was level 12 when I went in, 16 when I left, and realized I might have gone in too soon. That guy and undead scourge buddies were tough. But the mask I got from him is pretty nice.

I'm stuck in the quest to root out the skooma dealers in Riften. I'm at the cavern but there is a Bandit Marauder there with an axe that must have been blessed by God himself. He's doing my nut in, quite literally.

I think it's time for a disarm spell...

Not annoying, but HARD: the frigging Forsworn camp at Karthspire. The Hagraven I found first was fine, but holy crap, the Ravagers. Frost atronachs + frost spikes = dead me. Repeatedly.
