What I say, how was your Far Cry experience? Don't tell me it was easy (at least not on higher difficulties).

The dead opposite, actually, I found it to be horribly difficult. Then again, I suppose I can blame Crysis being easy on the DSG1, Gauss Gun and FY-17 with Incendiary Ammo.

Ok, now imagine I am playing Far Cry with a joypad. Who ever claims he is better with a joypad should try to master Far Cry, then he has proven something.

Mouse and Keyboard are more responsive than a controller, everyone knows that. They even did an experiment with that where they put medicore pc gamers vs good xbox gamers on a fps game. The PC gamers won every single round, the results were infact so humiliating that they never did experiments with that again. You're saying that you can handle against pc gamers with a controller and sure you can if you're really, really good or if you're a camper. Although you should change the name of this thread because it's utter ****.

The main reason why k+mouse is superior for aiming is the different mechanism. With k+mouse the turn-speed is going directly according to the movement of the mouse. On joypad the turn-speed is solely determined by the displacement of your thumb. It implies two disadvantages:

1. You are moving the thumb on a tiny place what makes it more difficult to be accurate
2. You have only an indirect way of affecting the acceleration of your turn-speed (the desired turn-move has to be translated to a sequence of thumb-displacements, and that is where the higher learning curve comes from if you want to use a joypad for aiming)

The advantage of joypad is its elegant input, you can do everything with a minimum amount of physical-movement.

Don't bother about the ease of aiming, try to work on other and more important skills:P

They better remove aim assist on the PC version...

It's serious stupid, they can shoot you in the leg and get a headshot.

Those of you who are using 360 pads on PC, you need to realize that you're only owning because of the AIM ASSIST, which should not exsist in a PC game.

Those of you playing on XboX and PS3 you should obviously own with your gamepad because its a console version of the game...
Its like if they give auto aim to a guy with mouse and keyboard on the console.

I kind of disagree on this I'm playing with a 360 pad on PC and getting similar results, I think it has more to do with play style. 360 players tend to move as a pack and don't stay in 1 spot for too long and constantly communicate vs PC players that spawn run to cover slap cloak on and wait. For me if it's a we see each other at the same time 80% of the time the mouse and keyboard win but most of the time I see them first and in those case I typically get the kill. I'm just out thinking them not out executing them, I bet everyone using a controller is doing that to some extent.

Side note does it piss anyone else off that you can't customize individual buttons on the 360 controller for PC? They had the same problem in Crysis 1, and it prevents me from using my usual setup of controller in my left hand with movement options, and mouse in my right for attacking.

As to which controller is superior, let me ask you this. If a gamepad is so much better, why do games that use them natively have auto-aim on by default, and KB+M games do not? In fact, before Crysis 2, I cannot recall a single game that has it on the PC, that isn't a port of course.

Gamepads and KB+M are simply tools we use to control what we do in a game. Like any tool, they require experience to get desirable results. However, gamepads use a completely different set of muscles to aim in an FPS than a mouse does. Since most people are already adjusted to how to use a mouse, it's difficult to use a gamepad at first. That is why most console games employ auto-aim, because it makes the game easier to get into without having to learn a completely different skillset.

I'm sure there are many people who have honed their skills with a gamepad, and a very good at FPS games without any form of auto-aim, but the fact of the matter is once you give people the option, it's hard to differentiate between skilled and mediocre. That doesn't happen in PC games, unless you factor in cheaters.

I'm not claiming I'm a great player. I play FPS games pretty casually, so I would never come close to tournament level skill, but I'm far from terrible either. However, since I don't use a gamepad and thus not elligible for auto-aim, I'm put at a disadvantage.

I'm not saying auto-aim is a terrible thing to have on consoles, but it should remain there, not on PC titles.

EDIT: To answer the OP, the reason why you're owning on the PC is because you're matched with auto-aim against players that don't. On the Xbox 360, everyone has auto-aim, thus you're on equal ground.

I would say it's because it's harder to use a pad then it is to use m+k. Anyone who can navigate the desktop on their computer can point and click their mouse in an fps - it's really not such a leap to make. I always turn off all auto-aims/sticky aims etc. on every console fps I play, as I find it intrusive. In games where you can't, or you can but some remains regardless, I find it inconvenient at the best of times - sometimes trying to snap me to an unintended target or turning my headshots into bodyshots.

Something that people seem to forget sometimes is that pads have two anologue sticks. 90% of the time, I use both to aim - moving myself and my crosshairs. With the added boon of anologue strafing etc. I can aim quickly and accurately. It takes some practice, but I've been playing fps on consoles for years.

I accept that when I turn my assists off, I'll be playing against others who don't - but I can hold my own and then some, so I don't feel disadvantaged. I'd actually prefer it if ranked/hardcoe gametypes switched all assists off for all players, though.

For the record, I grew up playing fps on pc - Doom, Quake, Half-Life, Deus Ex etc. etc.

I agree that m+k is perhaps more efficient for aiming, due to the mechanics of the device. However, personally, I much prefer to play with a pad. I believe that it takes more skill to be proficient with a pad (with all assists turned off), and I much prefer the act of balancing the sticks than the point and click nature of the mouse.

Ok i thought i was the only one, i too used a xbox360 and getting high kills than when i used a mouse, well i actually use a PS3 Fragnstein (google it) for PC games. So yeah i found it kind of odd that kills came so easy with a xbox360 controller even when i unenabled the aim assit, it's probably due to multiplatform of the game. I use to murder the shat out of peeps with a 360 controller on Red Faction Guerilla.

I usually warm up using a controller on a PC game, the gameplay is faster and you can build better reaction time. When im warmed up i switch to console and lol everyone seems so slow that killing becomes a breeze : )

I made a thread about it and explained exactly the importance of adding freely assignable buttons.
It is called: WHY NOT ADDING FREELY ASSIGNABLE BUTTONS?????????

I recently replied in this thread but I am not sure where it is as it is not showing on top. I can only find it through search-tags.
