Is it just me or are the children in fallout 3 invincible? If they are invincible why are they invincible? why has besthesda make children invincible out of everyone else?

Yes, they are. They made them invincible simply for ESRB reasons.

Probably 'cause they'd be hit HARD by the ESRB and PEGI for doing so. Technically you can kill the children in Megaton since you blew up their town.

Who is the ESRB and PEGI? and why would they care about a video game? :P

Don't you know Peggy? Seriously though, they are the American and European rating boards. The problem is that if a game is classified as one that may contain scenes which may be inappropriate for people who are older than 18 it can seriously affect sales.

Because the ESRB are idiots. They give out their highest rating for the game, and still limit the game in terms of censorship. I'm pretty sure i won't be walking outside and blasting kids heads off with a laser rifle in vats anytime soon, its a shame PEGI think i would. Nevermind.

They would be the groups that provide content ratings for video games.

Which should make it obvious why they would care. :D

The highest rating advlts Only, not Mature. Many stores will not carry AO games and if I remember correctly neither Microsoft or Sony will allow AO games on their respective consoles.

If Bethesda allowed children to be killed they'd almost certainly get an AO rating and then the game couldn't be released on two platforms and what as left wouldn't be allowed in many stores (and kept behind the counter in many others).

He may be referring to the UKs Highest which is 18. But yeah... Having the option to kill a child whether you would or not is still a bad thing. Although I only found this out after 150 - 200 hours they can't be killed as I was MIRVing a red marker that wouldn't go away... T'was Maggie. I didn't know until I went to shoot the red marker and it was her. Lol.

Plus it would be banned for the very reason that you can kill the kids by nations independent governments.

Game scripts reveal that they disappear. :P
While other Megaton citizens have lines like this:
NathanREF.kill
the children have
MaggieREF.disable
which means "make it go poof"

At least that way you know you have a clear conscious about the kids not dying when you take that choice.

Further to which Germany and the UK will ban games outright, Germany because of Nazism, the UK generally if a previous game in the serious is claimed as causing a crime. I fail to see how else Manhunt 2 was banned but Condemned 2 got through.

EDIT: I mean in case of ingame Nazism, not the Nazis themselves ban them.

Laws like this are so stupid.

What does the government think I am? Someone that can go do murder because I saw it in a game?

"I was going to go out and blast a child in the face with an ion cannon but since I can't do it in game, I suppose I won't do it for real."

Or...

"OH....COOL! In the game I get to blast children in the face with an ion cannon! I'm going to try that for real!"

Insane.

Yet its ok for children to get shot, stabbed hung and who knows what else in films but when it comes to games thats a big no no. The government can svck my d*** with there stupid ways. They need to get with the times, games are here to stay, they are the ultimate in entertainment but because we have a bunch of snotty 60+ years old running our country they just do what they think is good for them rather then think about us because they have no idea what games are about. Heck, they would have to look up what "mario" is for christ sakes.

:o Not Mario! When a gaming icon is brought into it the government should really get a grip... But I'd rather not talk Politics and stuff.......... Because I'm 15 and don't know much
