Is the 1h decapitation perk annoying?

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 3:02 pm

30 hours in and the 'Mace of Molag Bal' is one of my favourite weapons. I feel so badass everytime I strike another poor fool down and send his soul to my dread lord!!!!!

HAHAHAHA

This reminds me of DA:O when I get the kill animation of an ogre... with a hammer. (for those of you who haven't played DA:O, the animation ends with the character stabbing the ogre in the forehead, regardless of weapon)

Yep, it doesn't get too old- sometimes its slower, sometimes faster and infrequent enough. Luckily I don't use blunt weapons, so none of that "mace chops off a head" weirdness either (2h axes are my specialty).

Only silly moment is when NPC is currently sprouting out some nonsense like "I love a good fight" or "you'll be dead" or something. Luckily animation is long enough to let them finish their sentence before head rolls, or it would be really weird.

I guess if you are pissed enough you could stab them with a hammer? lol

Love the Decaps. Theres an Old Orc chap that wanted a good death, so i fought him on a bridge had a good brawl with him and cut his head off and it went flying into the river. He got what he wanted a good death. I then dragged his headless body and through it into the river in hopes his body returns to his ancestors.
Also sneak attack decaps are hilarious, cutting someones head off with a dagger..how does that work? still i love it.

I like the animation for the most part... less the mace taking heads off. I was fighting a fire wizard I think the first time this animation that had owned me like 5 times so when I got to see he's head rolling around on the ground it made me very happy lol.

It's quite rare and the animation is a first-person one.

I've gotten it a few times with my sword. It's pretty fun, but really the best part is watching how far the head actually rolls away from the body...

I've had my own head taken off by a Death Lord... epic fail on my part. That dude was pretty scary on first encounter

I have the perk and so far decapitations haven't happened very often. I got one off on a bandit and it looked really cool; I wish I could see it more.

Since I'm a conjurer ontop of being a dual-weild swordsman I've been wondering if you can dead thrall someone who's head is chopped off and if he would be headless as he follows you around.

I love it!

There have been several occasions when fighiting some of the opponents where they are talking smack "Is that all you have"..."You dishonor your own kind"... or they are taunting me in some way. Often right in the middle of their taunting or speach I cho p of their head.

Nothing more satisfying then silencing those smug bastards mid sentence with a nice decapitation.

I have no doubt that you could break someone's neck with a swing from a mace and destroy their skull, but the fact the head is held on pretty damn well with a lot of strong and flexible tissue means you're not going to knock it clean off without some velocity of which humans simply aren't capable.

My dad was a wrecker driver when he was growing up. He saw a car after it had hit a tree. Some of the occupants were decapitated from the impact force. It can happen with enough force applied to the body or the head. Remember, this was back in the day when there was no crush zones in cars, so the full impact G Force was applied to the people in the car. People back then were messed up with car accidents, not like today.

However, the decapitations are just one more finishing move, so it does not break immersion like the Bloody Mess perk did.

You have REALLY watched too many movies.

Because as we all know, video games are far more realistic than movies.

I love it! I went through the majority of a dungeon (after picking up the perk) before I saw it. It actually surprised me! But since then, I've only seen it a few more times and it's always been fast, though I've seen it in first and in third person. It really doesn't (with swords) look any different than any other kill (typically fast and over with) but it does get an extra helping of awesome.

This. The 25% standing power attack bonus is definitely handy, but I actually find myself wishing the decapitation part happened more often!

So, apart from a nice animation and a satisfactory thump when the head hits the ground, are there any actual benefits to the decapitation perk? (forgive a noob, I might actually get the game today :P )

Ironic on how we have a game with a system that allows for the removal of an NPCs head during combat with a fixed animation scene but no generic ability to cut someones limbs off in combat in real time like in the Fallout games.

Vast majority of this game is with melee weapons and I cant cut off someones arms?

Fail.

It's an RPG, not an action adventure game, and the combat isn't attempting to simulate reality. If it were, then surely one good blow to the neck would end all fights and the game would have no challenge. I know that sometimes its silly (i.e. when an enemy comes rushing to attack you with an arrow coming out of his face) but it's necessary to keep the combat fresh and interesting, and prevent the 'press x to win phenomenon'

Well, It usually immediately kills the guy you were fighting.

Some people mentioned a head exploding. That would be awesome. But messy.

Maybe it''s just as well they don't do it. Otherwise my wife is going to assume video games really ARE turning me into some soft of axe murderer. I don't want any wife aggro on my video game hobby.

P.S. If they were doing realism the decapitations would have to be a LOT bloodier too. It's cool but I think I can pass on that much blood.
