No patch please

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 8:54 pm

I am seriously considering not logging into Steam again.

My game runs just dandy.

A new DRM patch is now forcing people to launch the game from steam, removing the ability to use the large address patch and others.

So, no more Steam for me. I am running free and doing my own thing thank you. Well at least until i've completed my first walkthrough, then I'll patch up so I can get modding!

Hah :D it is bizarre :) Steam will insist on patching the game in order that you must load the game from Steam - wait, what? :D

It sounds, on first listen, to be spanking the legit users who already use it legitimately. I'm betting a pirate doesn't have to apply the patch :D

Will leave it for now. I like it the way it is. Bought it & everything, thanks for asking. Oh, wait, I wasn't asked.

Hmm, I sure how turning off automatic patching was enough. I don't want to go back to constant CTDs. I've been running smooth for a week.

This is good to know. I regularly use the "other" executable so I can play without launching two applications to play one game.

You sure can! If I remember right, just gotta go in your steam library, right click the specific game, go into preferences and select the Update tab. There should be a drop down menu there with the appropriate options.

I just hope it worked. I'll find on in a bit.

Steam will just turn it back on if you go online.

www.direct2buy.com lets you buy and play the game with no 3rd party software.

Steam is causing me problems. Every so often my game randomly lags and I am sure it is because of steam.

Is there anyway to load up the game without going through steam at all?

This was fixed for New Vegas. I wouldn't fret too much over it.

Yes, just launch the .exe from the skyrim folder.

Has there been a recent patch? I've been using the TESV.exe to launch the game. It launches directly and doesn't start Steam.

Okay so like 20 minutes ago it did this update thing.

I tried loading up the TESV.exe file as suggested however it just connects straight to steam instead. Is there a way to change the preferences or undo the download so I can start running it without steam?

Talos' balls! Considering steam's sitting pretty, online right now on my home PC, I supposed I'm f'ed sideways to sunday.

Lovely, lovely costumer support. Actively working against existing fixes to ensure a mediocre experience.

Even if they improve stability with the game so that it doesn't crash when mal-handling RAM, its going to face slow-downs and other issues in these same situations.

Force once I was able to play a Bethesda title for a week smoothly. I guess that bubble pops today.

Wait, what does the patch do? How can I turn it off? If I start Steam to disable patching of skyrim in my library, wont simply logging in screw me?

You could play it without?

Meh. I always used the steam variant.. I've crashed maybe...once.

I don't see the issue here.

Sorry for you, but I'll be sure to save a copy before I ever use the steam launcher.
