Optimum MTU size

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 10:28 pm

Any suggestions for XBL gaming? 1492 seems optimum for PPPoE (ADSL), but I've had mixed ping results playing about with it. Admittedly I've been pinging from a PC not my XBox, but I'd be interested to know if anyone's had a look and had any thoughts!

I knew I'd read something in detail on the forums - didn't realise it was you who'd posted it. Cheers man.

That's why I posted a bit ago asking for info from CryTek on moderate NAT hosts. Would seem a quick and dirty fix with potentially very tangible results if that was the case - because a strict(er) NAT type than all the other players in the lobby would make a poor host, surely?

Although that said again M$ reckon NAT type just affects in-game / party communication and not latency / lag... not sure I buy that though.

I just don't know enough about MTU sizes and packet fragmentation I don't think. XBL reckons 1364 or something is 'optimum', but hitting pings to http://www.google.co.uk with -f -l my pings seem to go up slightly. Grr.

Methinks I'll give up!

Edit: Typos.
