I'm convinced this is bugged...for me at least. I am 50 hours into the game, I have not found a torch in over 30 hours of in game play, I have looked and searched everywhere, walls of dungeons, bodies, stealing from guards and no one or nothing has any torches, this has gotten beyond irritating. The game would be a lot more enjoyable if I could see other than at daytime. This is ridiculous.

Yeah, there isnt many, im at around 50 hours myself and only found 5, or 6? They was on walls too, not found laying around or in chests etc.

Tbh i'm not that bothered, i have a light spell, saves sacrificing a hand to carry a torch

Wow! So you have been putting in roughly 10 hours of skyrim a day?

I have been playing 14 hours, and I have found 1 so far. Fire spells kind of work well, but I guess if you trying to RP a non-magical character it would be an issue.

I've found tons.
There's no point to them, the dungeons and whatnot aren't dark at all.
Mods'll fix it.

Thank you for the quick replies, I'm sorry to hear, but glad to know it's not just me that is affected by this. I do use candlelight sometimes, but If I'm stealth I have to wait for it to go away, as with a torch, I could just put it away.

I've found several torches too. I also found that putting them out makes it darker (derp!) and this lends itself nicely to stealth. I've had enemies walk past me in dark halls after putting out the lights.

I will say it is very specific to the place you are. There are few opportunities to douse a light when it actually helps in some way.

I've found a lot of torches as well, namely:

1. On the walls of caves and dungeons. If you can "activate" the wall torch, you can take it.
2. I've seen the occasional one for sale from a merchant.
3. Nearly every town guard has one in their inventory. Just pickpocket them if you like.

But yeah, there is really no need for torches in the game. Every once and a while they are useful to illuminate a dark corner or to see the face of an NPC you are talking to when they are facing away from a light source, but the light design and placement in dungeons and caves is so good in Skyrim that there is no need for torches while exploring.

Given how few torches some of you have found... a question I have is... how quickly do they burn out?

Since even the darkest caves are lit up so much it's hard not to see everything, you're never going to need torches outside of RPing purposes. They probably intended this to make it easier for gamers and not force you to bring torches all the time, hence they didn't put all that many into the game. So it's not bugged, it's just inconvenient if you do like torches.

Really? I have 10 in my inventory right now... I must have gotten them from the walls in dungeons.

Candle Light Spell works like a charm in dungeons, i never venture without it!! Most traders have it for sale for like 150g and the mages guild in winterhold had it for sale also

I don't pick them up very often as I don't use them but I do see them from time to time. I wouldn't say they are bountiful but they are hardly scarce. As i said, I don't use them so it's not an item I really pay much attention to but I can recall coming across them frequently enough that I remember it. Personally I still have 3 or 4 in my inventory from the very early part of the game, since I don't use them.

People who say everything is already well lit up... what race are you playing? Not all races see in the dark as well.

One of my characters never seems to need one, well not often anyway. While my 2nd is virtually blind if adventuring outside at night. And with either one, I can recall numerous times I've been reminded to pull out a torch when I'd stepped on a trap or trigger-plate because I couldn't see it.

I was close to making a thread regarding places to buy them. things are very dark with my settings (how I like it) and I am RPing a non-magic user meaning these things are a must.

Sad to know its going to be quite a burden for the remainder of the game.

I have 3 in my inventory and there are quite a lot in the mines/dungeons that you can take from the sconces. You can even place them there.

All races see the same, unless you use the Khajiits night eye power.
