New Player Help please

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 9:11 pm

Ok so I never really played much besides an MMO. This was the second RPG I bought n the past five years thats single player. Only ever bought Neverwinter nights, and on that I never made it out of town due to no instructional mannual.

Anyway I have a few questions. I have played for 40 hours. I did make it to level 20.

1. But How do i dual wield weapons? I can seem to get one spell and one weapon equiped, but not two weapons. I can dual wield magic as well fine.
2. How do I warp around? Walking everywhere is long and I not figured out warping.
3. how many perks do we get? How many levels are there? I was wondering how many catagories we can max out.

My charater, I do like destruction and illusion magic. Dual wielding is fun. do illusion weapons like a sword count for single handed attack tree?

Magic sometimes kills so slow, that I whip out my greataxe or warhammer. Whiterun city guards are al dead and naked due to this. :)

When skilling up, is it normel just to wack away at a NPC like a merchant who will revive every minute? Seems got from lvl 11-16 that way and got 50 skill on destruction, two handed and single handed. If not can alays do illusion flame man and kill that.

4. I never smithed or alcamy anything as I not really had a guide to use it

Thanks for all the help.

I am playing on the PC. Use WASD to move and mouse to turn camera. So dreadful.

Hey on a side note i guess I have a big bounty on my head. Some bounty hunter came after me, but he died, 200 gold on him though :)

Well what platform are you playing on? That's the first hurdle we have to get over, controls are different and all that.

1) You can only dual wield single handed weapons like swords, maces, small axes and my favourite the Shiv.

2) Open up the map and click on a previously visited place (say Whiterun)

3) I honestly don't know. You can max out all your skills to 100 I know that much.

4) I'll let someone else explain that.

Left mouseclick go select one weapon in your inventory; right click to select the other. That will let you dual wield.

You can fast travel using the map. I am on a PC so I hit the M key and then click yes to confirm. You cant fast travel to somewhere you havent been, even if it is on the map.

You get a perk per level, and typical endgame is supposedly 50. So plan for 49 perks.

[Yea, both my weapons are single handed.

elvan sword and elvan mace. But my weapons keep only going in right hand.

Seems I can only put spells in left hand.

Would like to equip the mace and sword.

100 skill cool, thanks for the tip.

But how many perks do we get for talent tree building?

50 total? I guessing each tree has about 20 per tree.

Okay well for dual wielding you should be able to go to your Items menu, select the weapon you want in your right hand and right click on it then do the same thing for the left hand only you left click on it (but it has to be a single handed weapon). I'm not sure if that's the default but that's how my friend does it but I'm not sure if he remapped or not. As for "warping" or fast traveling as it's called. Until you find a location on foot or by carriage/wagon (you can find one at most stables) you won't be able to fast travel.

LEFT-click a sword and it will go in your right hand (if it isnt a greatsword).

RIGHT-click a onehanded mace to put it in your left hand.

In your weapons inventory, Left click to put a weapon in your main hand, Right click on a weapon to put it in your off hand. Same applies for magic/powers.

Various merchants will coach you on how to craft stuff. Or just walk up to a crafting station and click it. You will see the types of stuff each machine station can make or improve.

If you don't like using wasd for movement you can remap them to the arrow keys.

One more question.

ok: book spells you buy and buycan use forever right?

But then scrolls, what are much more expencsve you can buy and only use once? So you learn no spell? Is this right? Why would someone pay so much for a scroll vs spell book?

Scrolls are a one use item. Great for warriors who don't want to learn spells. I do not buy scrolls. I just use the scrolls that my fighter comes across as loot.

Scrolls are for non-mages.
Plus they are pretty powerful and cost no mana.
