Fallout 3 isn't a game...

Post » Fri Oct 02, 2009 10:55 am

*fix'd

Some are every bit as good as the original content, if not better, so don't knock what the community as a whole has produced.

Yeah that can be true, just a matter of opinion.
Before this thread turn's into a "Mod's svck." "No, mod's make the game!" thread that will inevitably get closed, let's agree that it's all personal preference and stop with the brewing flame war. For the sake of the thread atleast.

I just decided to throw out my own personal opinion since the sub-topic was started, I didn't think it would begin a debate; It was just two words. Gotta make sure to be more careful about what I say next time I guess.

While FO3 is already a great game, it's common knowledge that some mods (not all obviously) add a lot to the experience.

I had a feeling someone like you would try to shove a screenshot in my face and leave a sarcastic remark concerning Mods. But no I'm not convinced. I don't want to play Fallout with a counter-strike character and the "best" mods usually end up making the game just so different it can barely be called the same game (Much like your screenshot there; M-16? Lol.) Not to mention some mods actually add bugs, not fix them. But the player created bug fixes I don't consider mods because they aren't truly modifying anything, just repairing. :slap:

I agree that the real-life stuff doesn't fit in Fallout 3, but that isn't even close to what the modding community has to offer in total.
The greatest gift that mods have is gameplay overhauls. Mods that increase the immersion by making guns stronger, creating hunger and thirst, slow down levelling and such make the game.

Also, you can't speak about bugs brought by mods if you haven't tried them. I have never faced any serious, unfixable problems brought by mods.
Unless you're on the PC. :D

PC users are given the ability to mods. So "do with what you got" applies to PC, too.

I love mods that add new areas and those that add new guns. Especially if they stick to the style of Fallout. No M4's or Crysis armors ;)

You have never tried the Amata and Sarah Lyons mods by Lawlder that's why.

Just kidding.

I thought you were going to ask us to finish that. Or was going to say "Fallout 3 isn't a game... it's a way of life" :)

Yes, like Oblivion and Morrowind, it's a good base for mods.

I've never played Morrowind w/ mods.

They are by me and yes I am aware of their bugs. I do the companions others won't - and that causes the limited dialogues and bug hardships which have been mostly fixed by now.

And I am more than certain they don't have game-breaking bugs. It's preposeterous. Impossible. Nobody has ever reported any and after months of using the mods they have almost never failed my expectations.

Report any bugs in the comments section of the mod's Nexus page... Whining about them here isn't going to cure any bugs.

It's a shame that Mods can't be formatted for the PS3 and downloaded through the web browser. svcks abit. I've modded games like Call Of Duty but NEVER on ranked Multiplayer matches... (Mainly offline actually) It's just a shame it can't be done for Fallout. Or even a Console for commands which if certain ones are activated it disables trophies or something. OR even a console friendly GECK that can be bought and then DLoaded on PSN/XBL and the ability to try friends published mods or something. Would be good.

Mods blow.

It all boils down to preference. I couldn't imagine running one of those "improved female mods". I mean, it's a [censored] Wasteland, and not Modeling Agency.
However, I have removed the doghouse and stuffed dog from my Tenpenny Suite with the GECK. That too is a mod.

If it somehow improves your gaming experience, go for it.

Console commands would be one that consoles indeed deserve. It's a debug tool, not a modding device, so it shouldn't violate the EULA. However, the reason it's in PC version is likely that they forgot to remove it, not that "har har PC is now even more superior!!"

PC games usually have console access in them, they are seldom removed. Especially in FPSs

They shouldn't be removed really as it can help with things like quest bugs instead of Bethesda and this Forum getting complaints that a quest can't be finished. It should just be accessed through the start menu as there's no button on a controller for it.

Makes sense. I'm not really a playing type, and Fallout 3 is the only new game I have.

I apologize. I lack a sense of humor.

If you don't want some "Counter-Strike" armor , then there are WAY, WAY more mods out there. For example, the one mod that adds Fallout 1/2 weapons. Makes the Fallout aspect even greater.

Want new weapons? There are mods for that.
Want new armors? There are mods for that.
Want new houses, companions, buildings to explore, enemies to fight, tougher battles, more realism, darker nights, green grass and trees, build a settlement, new quests, treasures to find, lands to explore, a motorcycle to drive? There are mods for that.

Want to make your own mods? There's a GECK for that.

I'm not really seeing much justification for keeping this topic open.

If you want to discuss which mods you like, you can use the Mods forum.
It seems to my mind rather silly to describe a game as a "modder's resource" when the overwhelming majority are playing on consoles, for which there are no mods.

That then leads to friction and platform bashing and nasty elitism.

That's even before we get to how downright rude it is to say that the game has nothing else going for it than the extra content added by other players using the resources and tools provided for them by the developers of the game. There's a quite interesting book called A Theory of Fun for Game Design by Raph Koster, which says "modding is just playing the game another way".

Anyway, this gets locked for spam before it ends up getting locked for worse.
