[RELz] BFG's Swap Broken Armor or Weapons; & Item Health

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 1:26 am

Alrighty then, seems you had a eureka moment. Keep in mind that there are some events in vanilla Oblivion that remove all weapons (or all your gear). You may not need to script in a failsafe for that, but...

My advice? Once you've got it working, get arrested and go to jail. That way you can see if your scrips wig out if all your weapons are removed from inventory. Good luck!

Well, I have good news and bad news. The good news is that I've rewritten the script in question, and all of the issues we've discussed so far (with the exception of the Vilja mod which I have not tested) appear to be resolved.

The bad news is that the new script requires OBSE 19 beta 2...and it appears that a bug in that version of OBSE can destabilize the game and cause a Crash to Desktop upon saving. (I posted in the OBSE general thread about it.) Until that bug is fixed, I'll either have to wait to release the new version, or disable weapon reequipping till the problem is resolved.

EruditeDragon--
It's almost ready! The bug in OBSE v19, Beta 2, was confirmed and scruggsy has fixed it. As soon as the next OBSE 19 is available for download I'll be able to post a revised version of this mod that, as far as I've been able to tell, addresses all of the issues you've identified!

Sounds good. I'll test it once it's out, then :)

Version 1.65 has been released! I upgraded the mod to use OBSE 19's new features, and fixed numerous issues with the Weapon Reequip script, including (I believe!) every bug reported to date.

Unfortunately, due to a flaw I discovered in OBSE 19 - Beta 2, you must have OBSE 19 - Beta 3 or better installed to safely use the Weapon ReEquipping.
Since Beta 3 isn't widely available yet, I've turned that feature OFF by default in this new release.

Well, assuming EruditeDragon (and no one else for that matter :)) finds further bugs with this mod, I'm probably done with it for a while.
Does anyone have suggestions for additions or changes? Or, what could I add/remove to make the mod more interesting?

I am eventually planning to set the mod up so you can decide what clothing or weapons you want to reequip when your current equipment breaks. But I'm going to have to research how to do that first.

Well, I'm a teensy bit behind testing-wise; I'm just about to install OBSE 19 - Beta 2, then pop in your mod.

That being said, I'm really not sure what else you can add. It's looking pretty nice as-is.

Thanks!
Oh, and a quick comment about OBSE. As the mod's Readme states, turning on reequipping of weapons isn't safe with a version earlier than OBSE - Beta 3. However, for testing purposes it's fine to use Beta 2; it's just that Oblivion could crash (producing a corrupt save file in the process) if you try to save with Beta 2 running and reequipping turned on.

Thanks for all of your hard work! Unfortunately, I won't be testing this version until OBSE 19 final is released since I really don't like installing beta versions before all the known problems are fixed.

Just tested:

Issue 1 - Broken weapons when switching hotkeys: Fixed.

Issue 2 - Vilja breaking her own weapons: Undetemined, but seems to be fixed. I'll probably be waiting for OBSE beta 3 on this one, since Vilja is a rather complex companion (I still think you should try her out, because she's just awesome). Any bugs I notice later will be reported.

Issue 3 - See you sleep conflict: Fixed, and a good thing too. Sleeping with a scabbard on your hip just looks uncomfortable.

Looking good on my end. Great job!

Excellent! That's what I like to hear. I'll have to try out Vilja. I have my own companions though and they don't seem to be clutzy. :)

TestName--I've been considering uploading an OBSE 18 version of the mod for people like you who don't want to use a beta version of OBSE. Is there anyone else who'd like to see an 18 version?

Well, I couldn't resist. I posted a new version, 1.66, that again makes the mod compatible with OBSE 18. In fact, the mod will now choose which script to run based on what version of OBSE is available. So if you have OBSE 19 - Beta 3 or better installed, you will be able to use the "best" version of the mod.

Well, I couldn't help myself.
With apologies to those who downloaded 1.66 earlier today, I just posted a new version, 1.70. It adds one new feature: worn clothing can give a small amount of protection, depending on how heavy it is and what part of the body it covers. The heaviest clothing is equivalent to Fur Armor.

I also made one minor fix to 1.66 that might fix the issue a few people have been having with NPCs' armor or clothing sometimes unequipping inappropriately.

The only further development I have planned for this mod, unless someone has bug reports or suggestions, is to allow the player to decide which specific weapons or clothing to equip if their current weapon/armor breaks. After that, I'm done!

BFG - I just downloaded the mod after reading what it does today, and was really keen on getting this tweak which would make the game even more immersive. One suggestion regarding the name - the name is just onfusing and too long. As hey say in marketing, you have to have a catchy name to sell something. That would definitely help the no. of downloads as well...

I wanna try this but will wait for OBSE 19 to be out of beta - after the ride I took with modders jumping all over 5 beta versions of OBSE 18 and then some mods not working due to being compiled with OBSE 17 - I'm just not able to go there again.

But this looks great!

Thanks Psymon! The latest version is downgraded to OBSE 18; it's safe to use with either version (though OBSE 19 handles the weapon reequipping a bit better).

Heh, I can't argue with you there! As is obvious, I'm not very good at naming. I'll have to give it more thought. In the meantime, do you have any suggestions?
Edit: I don't like any of the below, but am thinking along these lines. How about something like
  • Armor and Weapon Auspices/Auger
  • Weapon and Armor Wizard
  • BFG's Overhaul Weapons and Armor (BOWA)

Good idea !
Re name: definitely needs something "catchier" than the current, long, descriptive one - BOWA sounds fun. But why not just BFG's enhanced armory? It's what I searched for when I looked after an update on TESNexus this morning. Although the acronym isn't as much fun (BEArgh...). Hard to come up with something accurate AND attractive anyway...

Heh, I stopped using "Enhanced Armory" a while back simply because, with that name, a lot of people thought that this mod had something to do with Armamentium. That said, I agree with you - it's probably time to go back to that! (Especially since you bring up a good point: the ESP is still named that, because I didn't want the guys running BOSS to have to change their mod order list.)

All right, you've convinced me. I'll change the name back to "BFG's Enhanced Armory", if for no other reason than the fact that people will at least be able to find updates more easily that way.

That said, if you have better name suggestions, let me know!

I'll continue to watch this thread but will be starting a new one to reflect the new name.
