How does one gain armorer skill (or other non physicals) jus

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 9:46 am

I was walking down a street in IC (had a skill go up another time that didn't seem like it fit too) when I got a message
that my armorer skill had gone up.

It might be a delayed message. Happens to me sometimes.

There is a mod called Passive Training, or something like that, that will raise your skills while you are not doing anything special. Do you have that installed? Do you have any mods installed that modify skill-leveling such as Progression? If not, did you do some repairing within the last couple minutes of gameplay? It could have taken a few moments for the game's scripts to recognize some recent activity.

I don't think I've ever had that happen without a leveling mod.

However, it does happen sometimes with the nGCD mod installed. I don't recall that happening with Armorer, but I do recall it happen with Hand to Hand.

That happened to me while using the mods that I don't use now in combination, It shouldn't be a leveling mod but it is possible

I have nGCD and Progress. I don't know if I had done any repairing recently.
If you say it happens with these, is it a bug or as they say, a "feature"? :)
It has happened so infrequently that I haven't taken notice of the actions prior to it happening.

It's from realistic fatigue. As you do things, it will very slightly bump your skills.

I think I could agree with you but remember RF alters your endurance upgrade right?

Because RF gives bonuses to players who carry extra stuff with them "faster leveling" it adjusts how much should your endurance skills get a boost. Its just like running around with leg weights or jumping in them
Also before installing a mod please read the readme I answered your problem at the nexus about the immersive first person camera mod

I don't see how a crafting skill raises by carrying extra stuff though.

I don't have that mod, I only made a comment there based on earlier comments in the thread.

I guess it's because beating the crap out of metal requires strength and endurance, as much as anything else.

Otherwise, beats me. I don't use that mod, and I'd suggest those who have issues with it, simply not use it as well. But, suit yourself.

I would also say its from Realistic Fatigue. I didnt like the way it improved these skills though the author had good intentions...

Try changing these configurations in your Realistic Fatigue .ini file:

et aaRealisticFatigue.fSkillStrengthEncumb to 0.00
set aaRealisticFatigue.fSkillEnduranceFatigue to 0.00
set aaRealisticFatigue.fSkillAcrobaticsTrip to 0.00

This will stop your skills from leveling when youre not using them.

I believe the feature is on a global slowdown - it slows down as you level up more. I enjoy the logic behind it, so I nudged Progress up to five times slower - so it takes me five times as long to level up now. Now it doesn't bother me if I'm walking down the street, straining myself under a large, filled bag of armor, and suddenly: "Hey, you're a better armorer now!"

Well ... all I can say is, after carrying that load from Vilverin, I damn well better be!

Thanks. Just because I can run a marathon doesn't mean I know how to fix things. I didn't realize how interconnected these skills were.
Armorer really should have had its own skill rather than being dependent on a skill you would raise elsewhere and thereby raising armorer without actually learning how to do it.

Regarding Progress...so if I just pump up my progress limiter more it will affect these skill ups as well...

Anyone know of a good realistic fatigue mod other than this one they would recommend? My initial searches only came up with this one as a good one. I like the visual / audio representations I have in all my realistic mods. I wish there was a mod that gave concern to higher disposition NPCs that normally just walk right by you and over you while you collapse to the ground in a seizure fit. :)
I fell down a flight of stairs and died (due to some kind of mess up in mods that is generally fixed now I think) and all the people could do was carry on their activities like nothing happened. Maybe give me a drink, some food, a potion...Something! Maybe have an alchemist named Leonard kneel down and look up at his Imperial Legion friend and say, He's dead Jim.

There are at least two other reasonably major fatigue-related mods - try Delte's List, they come up there a lot.

The rationale behind the increases in Strength-based and Endurance-based skills goes roughly, "Hauling piles of gear requires Strength and should contribute to increasing Strength. Running while at low Fatigue requires Endurance and should increase Endurance. Tricky maneuvers like running backwards and sideways, which risk tripping, require Agility and should increase Agility. Since increasing attributes directly is of questionable merit, instead increase the skills related to those attributes. After all, in real life increasing your strength increases your ability to smack things effectively with a sword or hammer - why not in the game?"

It's a matter of taste, of course, but I personally have been enjoying it. It's giving me yet another reason to do a lot of travel by foot. It's also helping my rather skinny stealth archer to bulk up a little, which would be very difficult if he had to do it all by smacking things with a sword. I imagine that I would feel the same if he were a melee character, except that the friendly feelings would concern the inconvenience of wearing light armor and using ineffective bows to build up agility.

Like it was said earlier, good intentions, but that's a bit far fetched. Someone might be able to take a lot of bruising before they go down, but still completely hopeless when it comes to repairing armour.

I used Delte's thread and it only listed the one.
I have seen a TFE and few others, but they don't have the visual/audio cues I was looking for as well.
I spend a lot of time trying to search Nexus (with its not-so-great search function). It is faster to just ask.

It is faster to just ask.

Maybe then try asking in the threads of the mods you are using instead of creating another thread repeatedly at whim? Maybe then giving a closer read to the readme files these mods come with. Many have used RF and knew the answer just by reading the title of this thread.

I don't think the search function on this forum is that bad myself, but what makes it not so great is endless help threads that belabor the mod features and yet really are not that helpful when viewed again in a month. So now people searching out RF will get this as an immediate hit and therefore think the search function is no good.

Maybe try doing a little research before posting. I know I'm not the only one who finds it rude that this entire forum is often used as one new users personal thread. I've been to other gaming forums where each mod gets their own forum - I wish it were that way here, but it is not. In 2 years I've maybe created around 15-20 threads - mostly though I'm able to find the respective thread and know that asking in the modders thread is where I'm going to find the fastest answer. Creating threads at every small whim, however, just makes people who really do know not want to encourage the behavior and therefore will not answer ... Maybe consolidate your questions down to one thread?

Just some suggestions.
