Can anybody give me any help getting to ivarstead during the way of the voice quest because I can't seem to get there because of the mountain. Any help would be appreciated.

Walk around the mountain. Or take a cart to Riften and walk from there, but I'm not really sure if it's faster.
Also, there should be a signpost on the road north-east of Whiterun. Just follow the directions.

mountains really get in your way in skyrim, and with no acrobatics skill.... you gotta walk around

Also, you can get on a road that goes over the mountain South of Riverwood. It runs through Helgen.

Outside of large cities. Whiterun, for instance.

From Whiterun, go South to River-something-or-other, then go SE to Helgen, then go East and there is a path that goes around the mountain right to Ivarstead.

I did not find this path for a very long time and instead always went North to go around the mountain. That is a very long trek. This is a much shorter route.

I have no idea which mountain you're referrencing. If you're approaching from the north, down from the Windhelm area, I used a natural cavern/passage that had an entrance at the bottom of the cliff and exited at the top.

This is of course to get past the mountain/cliff that seperates the lower Windhelm region from the upper/western Rift. If you mean the Throat of the World, go through Helgen as others have said or take the massive trek through the Rift.

Leave Whiterun and take the road North. As soon as you get to the first bridge Ivarstead is signposted, heading north.

Do walk it or you'll miss interesting random encounters, places, fantastic views, enough potion making ingredients to open a market, combat, loot and loads of XP. It's a good trip there from Whiterun, but stick to the road for now, it's designed to show you around and relatively safe.

If you're where I think you are, then do as others have suggested and try the Helgen route. It's likely to be much more dangerous, but it's certainly faster than the other path if you're already down south of Whiterun.

Easiest way use the clairvoyence spell, it shows you a pathway to your current quest marker, that's what I used to get there.

Use your map, there is a road what starts in Helgen and leads to Ivarstead, it goes east trough the shout of High Horthar.
