Are Paarthurmax and Alduin Two Aspects of Akatosh?

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 12:06 pm

Could Paarthurmax and Alduin simply be two different aspects of Akatosh?
As you probably know the Christian faith is heavily based on a deity having multiple aspects or forms. (Jesus and Holy Spirit being God)
_______________
Alduin = Begining and end.
Paarthurmax = Forever watching over Tamriel from the Throat of the World.

If I'm right, then what saved Tamriel at the end of the Oblvion Crisis. Was it Akatosh in the flesh himself?

As far as I see it all of the dragons are "aspects" of the time god, something akin to the avatars of Shor (Pelinal, Ysmir, Talos) but eternal in proper reflection of their patron rather than mortal (as would befit a truly dead god).

As for the Oblivion Crisis: Martin basically "borrowed" Akatosh from Akatosh to rewrite the rules that Camoran screwed with by exploiting the Amulet and White Gold Tower.

It's possible. But I get the feeling that Paarthunax is yet another avatar of Shor (and let's face it, Skyrim is crawling with 'em). Alduin's right-hand-man who betrayed him in favour of humans, plus his connection with Kyne all scream "Shor" much louder than "Akatosh" to me.

Why does everything need to be an avatar or an incarnation or a mantler nowadays? Why can't Parthurnax just be an old elven ancestor who Y'frre's sacrifice allowed to stay in dragon-form, and who is powerful enough to keep his immortality? Why can't the dragonborn be someone who just awakened the power within all mortals, because all mortals are the children of dragons/giants?

Also, commited atrocities during the war / lost his heart. A bit of a long shot but... eh.

I agree somewhat, as walking the pre-paved road of destiny does belittle the journey to a certain extent. But still. Mantling and incarnation is cool.

I don't think Paarthurmax is probably anyone's avatar...

Or to be more specific, I don't think his place in dragonkind is exceptionally special - in that he is probably connected to Akatosh in the way that all Dragons are. Whether that be as mundane as mere offsprings.. or something a closer to splintered aspects I can't quite say.

Shor's avatars are generally humans. As becomes obvious in the Main Quest, human-mortal existence is toxic to dragon-thought, which I believe makes it very unlikely that any dragon would be an avatar of Shor.

I can find some similarity between Kyne teaching humans how to use the Voice, and Paarthurmax spending thousands of years doing the same. Maybe their is a connection there... but probably not.

Like a poster said, not everyone has to be an avatar.

Paarthurnax is an emissary of Kyne, isn't he?

No they are children of Akatosh only. If you remember Paarthurmax left Alduin's side because he made the false claim that he was an aspect of his father, Akatosh.

Let's not forget M'aiq also said that Akatosh and Alduin are not the same being. Sort of. And personally, I like the idea that Alduin has been masquerading as an aspect of Akatosh/Auriel, because it cast Alduin as very genre-savvy.

When does Ald claim to be an aspect of Akatosh? Because that would get him pretty far.

Looks like I was wrong. He instead says he's the son of Akatosh, which I believe is reinforced when Paarthurnax says about dragons being offspring of Akatosh. That's what I get for using something I read on TVTropes.

Would've been a cool idea though, considering until MK began to hint what TES V would confirm, that Alduin wasn't the same being as Akatosh, all evidence pointed to Alduin being the Nords' version of Akatosh, the same being viewed differently. That Alduin possessed many parallels to Auriel, perhaps more than Akatosh himself, didn't help.

Eventually we'll inductively reduce every single being and force in the series back to Padomay/Sithis. It will be the day of the Loregularity, which is ever striven for with every new thread.

Alduin could have easily gotten his powers somewhere other than Akatosh though.

He doesn't say it to the PC. Paarthurnax tells the player that Alduin made that claim in the beginning.
