I wanted to build a mage after my first character was done but i want her to be a destruction mage, not a illusion/conjuration mage with a melee weapon and then destruction to finish things off as an afterthought

Can anyone ease my fears about destruction?

Can anyone confirm them?

Can anyone remember any balance patches from bethesda, i remember several from obsidian (fallout nv) but not a single one from Beth

If i put tons of perks into it, would that make things better?

Has Beth said a thing lately about the game or a patch?

I haven't tried anything BUT magic yet, so I don't know for certain. I do not think the cost of magicka justifies the damage. I have 350 magicka at level 18, and I run out of magicka 1/3rd of the way into the fight. Magicka regenerates incredibly slow during combat. And yes, I have the perks for the 1/2 magicka cost, so...

It's almost as if they purposely threw the enchantment to lower magicka cost into the game, because it's the only way to make a viable mage.

Being a Destruction mage isn't terrible if you're good with smithing and enchanting. Sadly, I resorted to building a set a daedric armor and enchanting it to have 100% magicka reduction for destruction spells, so I run around and faceroll everything with Thunderbolt. That being said, without using exploits, past level 40 Destruction is completely useless. If you put every single point into magicka, perks into destruction, and have 200% magicka regeneration rate, you are still spending all your magicka on spells that do almost no damage to the enemy on Adept and above because there is no destruction skill scaling. More skill in One handed weapons = more damage. More skill in destruction = no advantage whatsoever other than access to perks.

It wouldn't be discussed so much or have a need for "another one of these threads" if it wasn't a problem.

Mage is fine, just don't neglect the stats that are important to a caster...most importantly, cost reduction.

My level 32 mage murders everyone he sees and has been doing so his whole life. Just play like a mage would play and you'll be fine. He is what some would call "Pure Destruction". My Destruction skill is at 86, and the large majority of my perks are there, I have them all except reduce master spell cost (100).

If anything, its too easy sometimes. I died my fair share at lower levels, its going to happen, the game loves to throw a random bear at your face when you're not ready and kill you before you can respond...but in a "fair fight", I'm unstoppable.

Well, I'm a Battlemage...

Skills:
One-handed - 65
Destruction - 60

I can use 6 fireballs before running out of magicka
But they do much more damage than using my sword...
Some times I summon a sword and keep using 2 swords...

It's pretty awesome to be a battle-mage...
But there is no defense(no shield, that is), I have to use heavy armor then....

Then I use 2 spells - (For that, you'll also need alteration and restoration)

Healing and Equilibrium. Healing uses magicka to heal yourself, Equilibrium uses your health to recover your magicka

When I'm using both of them, I can get 100% in 20 seconds in both magicka and health
