Cannot find .45-70 Ammo ANYWHERE (except a few hollow points

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 2:44 pm

There seems to be a huge deficiency of .45-70 ammo??

I can literally buy 1000s of rounds of .308 and other high end ammo - but never .45-70?

Some of the coolest guns are useless without ammo.....

Nick and ralf sell it also gun runners chet and the dino bites shop. Park yourself in the store and save the game and exit.. this will reset the merchant so you can shop again and again and again.

*Unless* we had the ability to use a pistol whip attack. Which we don't. So my post is useless.

Anyway, go to the Gun Runners.

I've never seen more than a dozen of those bullets anywhere at any one time. It's kinda lame.

Gun runners don't carry standard .45-70. The ONLY place I've seen it is the Brotherhood. Beyond that, I've found the HP ammo works great in the Sequoia and brush guns as their base damage is so high that the penalty against the HP ammo isn't problem until the target's DT is around 18 or higher. Under that, and HP ammo works better anyways.

In my 70+ hours of playing Fallout I have never seen Gun Runners supply standard .45-70 rounds. Its extremely frustrating. Therefore the only steady means by which for me to produce .45-70 gov't hand-loaded rounds was for me to kill things and collect casings using .45-70 HP rounds, break down 9mm and other useless ammo for lead and buy primers, etc from the Gun Runners. Its def not the most efficient process and extremely frustrating when I have over 200,000 caps and can't spend it on ammo i actually want.

Take the Hand Loader perk and collect the cases from the HP ammo you shoot off. I actually shot off almost 200 HP rounds into the ground next to my reloading bench just to make the hand loaded .45-70 special rounds. Stupid and slow but it works. Then I came to the realization that the .308 JSP is still the better round and haven't wasted time with that again.

If you have casings, you can convert .308s into .45-70s.

Never seen him carry it. He does carry 1500 rounds of 12.7mm, and he's the only person to carry that.

This is what I do, with hand loader perk I buy all the hollow points they have at gun runners and the gun runners merchant under 188 trading post. They each have about 40 rounds per restock. Then, I just shoot those hollow points into the air/wall. With hand loader I seem to get back about 1/2 the shells from my fired rounds. Then I use primers from the .308 rounds I find everywhere and make .45-70 SWC ammo.

It's expensive and a hassle, but worth it with the cowboy perk to get SWC ammo for my sequoia and brush gun.

It's silly because HPs deal more damage even on armored targets than normal ones. Shoot them at enemies, then make hand-loaded ones.

Can't break down HP and AP ammo in the stock game. HP rounds on a sneak attack does the trick at least. AMR hitting power for 1/4 the weight.
