Online Sur vey

Post » Tue Oct 06, 2009 2:12 am

I'm trying to complete an online survey for something I need online. It's legit, and it will give me what I want, but asks for my cell phone number.

I read the fine print and it was one of those trivia sites, where they'll text me questions and charge me for each text. But it also gives me instructions on how to cancel the service. Would it work to give them my information, get what I want, and then cancel? Or is there some kind of scam hidden within a scam here?

Stay far far away IMHO. Buy a cheap pre-paid phone or something if you must....

I definitely wouldn't give them your number, you don't know how many questions they'll send or how much they'll charge.

Carefully fill out the survey, and remember to double check that your S.S.# is accurate.
Your Taiko Digital Sports Watch shall arrive shortly.

Seriously, I've got to know what could be worth subjecting yourself to scammers for.

Always assume scam.

Don't worry about trying to click your way to free(stuff)dom, just do without until you can afford to buy it with proper money.

Don't do it. My sister did something like this, and we ended up paying $50 on our next phone bill because of some hidden subscription. The worst thing was that it took 3 months to cancel it.

$150 down the drain for nothing.

I call scam. How do you know it's legit anyway?

I once tried to buy a ringtone online from a website that looked totally legit. They charged me $30 and only stopped taking money because it was a pay-as-you-go phone and that was all I had on it. :(

It was linked from a very legit site. I'm not going to get in to what it is (it's forum appropriate, don't worry...) but I don't want to have to answer a bunch of questions.

Anywho, these were the answers I was expecting, I just wanted to confirm that my little workaround wouldn't work. Thanks. This can be locked.
