To be honest, I felt the endgame was easily the worst part of the game (at least going with the NCR). I really hate the trend that every RPG must have ye old combat romp before ending and I don't think it was done in a very satisfactory way in New Vegas at any rate. Though seeing the Boomers fly their plane was a great touch.
To clarify, I think a big battle breaking out should definitely be there as an option for the combat characters. But as someone who had specialized in stuff other than guns (and no Sneak), it's just rather boring to get a combat section like that. I really wish they'd use you for some other mission if your skills are not in combat.
Also, while I did appreciate the fact that we can talk our way out of the final boss encounter, they really didn't make it particularly convincing. Partially because this guy has been built up to be pretty non-negotiable and the fact that you can show up like that and talk him down via some rather lame dialogue options was disappointing. Again, great that you can make use of your Speech obviously but I think they should've (given the man that we're facing here) perhaps made it something like the Master from FO1 where you also had to have additional pieces of intel to bring out in the conversation. Would've felt a bit more "meaty" and believable.
Kinda whining here, hehe. But I really loved the game overall and felt the end-game was a kinda cheap thrill-ride unfortunately.
