Major quest lines do not scale well...

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 6:39 pm

Just realized this. I am around level 36 wrapping up guild quest lines and I gotta see these quests do not scale properly. I am absolutely owning everything effortlessly. Thief finale, Brotherhood finale, Mage finale. Every enemy is going down like paper and can barely even injure me and this is the first time I have started the quest or set foot in these areas; reminds me of the difficulty at the beginning of the game... Certainly anti climactic given random side quests seem to scale a lot better and provide a lot more of a challenge.

Adept but still; the middle part of the game was challenging, and some side quests have been challenging but the difficulty near the end of the guild quests lines seems to just drop off. I've been flying through the final quests effortlessly.

I realized that too, almost every single fight on Master needs all my attention if I don't want to die but then I get to a quest enemy and it dies super easily.

Kinda stupid.

I'm only level 25 and I find quests to have a good balance of both easy and hard. To me it kinda makes sense.

Raise difficulty -_-

I play on master... even with capped physical and magical resistance I still die stupidly fast if I make a mistake.

Try it at 35. I was having a challenging time doing the guild quests around then as well, about mid way through I guess; problem is it seemed like they stopped scaling because by the end of all the guild quests as I was pushing 30+, companions, brotherhood, thieves and mage everything was a push over at the end. I did crank it up to master and still. Morokei was nothing special and I heard he was suppose to be challenging. Seemed like he knew one spell and all I had to do was avoid it.

At level 36 you should be able to wipe the floor with most enemies, but I do agree that major questlines need to have set values on the endgame encounters. Level scaling is an ok system on certain enemies in isolated areas, but major quest related bosses should always have a set level. In TES III Morrowind, they never had this problem. If what you are saying is true, then I feel for you.

But to be fairly honest, level 36 is a very high level in a game designed with 50 as the scaling max (especially so if you have specialized in only a few skills).

No, level-scaling, eliminates most of the character growth.

Static leveled bosses with higher levels promote character growth, because you need to aqcuire more strength to face them.

This game was designed with 50 as the scaling max, so a level 36 should theoreticly perform this well if done right. I would hate to see a world filled with level 50 bandits, because then I might as well stay at level 10 (Which is exactly what I did in Oblivion, the mother of all level-scaling monstrousities.)

Well high static levels or high level scaling for at least the last few quests of each major quest lines. I made the mistake of putting these off and then at around level 33 I decided to focus on getting all the guild quests wrapped up; had about 2 quests on each left to go and just steam rolled through all of em; the bosses were all pretty easy and often had glitched or idiotic AI to top it off.
