Make Skyrim available for DirectX 10!

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 8:50 pm

Come on bethesda! Stop leaving us PC players in the dark! I can handle most stuff like the UI (because they're making a mod for that), But I'm sick of getting random framerate drops when my PC could do so much more!
Please bethesda, give a a directX 10 option, so I can run this at better frames all the time.

If anything a DX11 patch. DX10 is more or less the most useless update ever.

If you look in the game folders, it has a folders called DirectX10

I can only assumei t already is using at least some part of directX 10 in it.

I doubt a DX10 renderer would improve the framerate in any noticeable way. The renderer is just a small part of the overall engine, and the rest would work as it does now.

I actually doubt that, when i played Crysis (DX9) It ran on low frames, but when i played crysis 2 (DX10) It was damn smooth

I would say no, adding DX10-11 support after the fact is more likely to add a boat load of technical issues. Dragon Age 2 had this problem they pushed DX11 into a patch which caused no end of crashes and a lot of ppl had to disable it, in fact it still isn't fixed and probably never will be.

Crysis 2 runs better than Crysis regardless of the renderer, major changes were made to the engine.

Yeah it would be nice if most new games actually used DX11.

DirectX 10 and DirectX 11 both improved the efficiency of the API when handling things like lighting, shadows, and volumetric particle effects. The effect is noticeable in a few games in which the version is selectable. Of course, it would help if these things weren't rendered partly in software by the gods forsaken Gamebryo engine (including the modified version used by Skyrim).

But hey, this is primarily a console game anyway. Bethesda will show zero interest in using anything but last gen graphics until the next Xbox comes out.

To develop on DX11, you need to use its object files at the start of the project or have to retroactively change your video rendering which could result in a lot of bugs. Most of these games have been in development since before DX11 was released, hence they're not using DX11. Also consoles.
