explain enchanting to me please

Does the "Enchanter" perk work on passive effects such as magic reduction and the same on fire, frost, shock.

Example will I get the 100% effect on say a robe with magic reduction.

Then if I enchant a sword with flame damage will it have a hundred percent boost in fire damage.

Also is it the "Enchanter" perk with all five perk points used on it more well rounded than fire, frost, or storm enchanter?

enchanter works on any new enchant you put on your gear, not the old ones
the fire/frost/lightning enchants are in addition to the enchanter perks, but if you are planning to either put one point in enchanter to work your way up to the rest, or put all in enchanter, id have to say 5/5 enchanter is the best since it effects all enchants, i personally have 5/5 enchanter and frost and fire perks
also, i found out the hard way, if you have unique armor you want to enchant (worn shouded in my case) wait till 100 enchanting, you cant add the 2nd enchant after you already have one enchant

Ok that is what I was wondering so the enchanter perks are the best rounded that effect your weapon and armor enchantments.

I will wait to enchant my unique gear until I reach 100 to be sure.

That's kinda wasting the entire point of the skill isn't it? There's more to the game than 'the best'. Each time you get a new weapon or armor, go ahead and enchant it for what you need at that point. It doesn't have to be perfect, just helpful. Each time you do this you get better at Enchanting and the next time it'll be better. No sense in grinding to 100 or waiting till 100 before making anything.

To raise your skill just enchant everything before you sell it. Get more money and skills.

Well with regular stuff it is. I am talking about something very rare or one of a kind. Not something like Daedric, ebony or dragon armor.

Get a magical item and disenchant it at a Magictable. That learns you the spell. But destroys the item.
Collect Soulstones (the bigger the more of the magic spell you can achieve). Make sure they are filled. If not get a spell that fills them after you kill.

Then use the table. Select a item (Gear of Weapon) and select a magic spell. The last thing is select a soulstone. Then click enchant.

Try to get enchants that are usefull. For instance if you are a warrior. Get 2hand or 2hand dmg increasers. Stamina returners, etc. And mana regen for those healingspells.

I am asking about the usefulness of the Enchanting perk compared to the rest of the tree the question is in the OP...

To clarify I know the process to enchant and its very fun. I am asking if the Enchanting perk is more useful maxed out then the rest of the perks besides the Extra Effect perk.

My enchanting build is
5/5 enchanter
insightful enchanter
corpus enchanter
extra effect

fire enchanter these two arnt really necessarily, but i took them anyways
frost enchanter

also, if you really want to get the max out of enchanting....
alchemy
-------
alchemist 5/5
physician
benefactor

its possible to get +32% enchanting and +130% smithing potions with enchanting + alchemy, used this to get +47% bow damage on my head, gloves, ring and neck...but this is kinda getting broken at this point....

So I have no perks in enchanting.

I disenchated this sword that has 10 absorb health.

And the "enchant" it gave me was 8 absorb health.

Why was it 8 not 10?

Yes that is extreme.

I have not really used enchanting and I have not exploited alchemy. I just want some decent magic reduction because the top tier spells are insane in how much magicka consumption they take.

snip

because you learned the "absorb health" enchantment, not the "absorb 10 health" enchantment. How much you get depends on your skill level and how good a soul you use to enchant with.

because you have no perks in enchanting
the power of the enchant depends on enchanting level, enchanting perks, and what soul gem you use
with a good enchanting build and grand soul gems, you can make better then 10 absorb health

So does that mean, anything that has "absorb magic" enchant on it. 5, 10, whatever. When I disenchant it I will always get an 8 absorb magic enchant?

Pretty sure it works off your skill level and your perks on how much it multiplies.

sorry for double post, this came up while i was writing my previous post
why does everyone consider using alchemy in conjunction with enchanting an exploit? its stuff built in, and intended to be used, isn't it?

Well I guess so. Let me rephrase I have not maxed out alchemy.

I guess they think that because of the extreme power you get from it.

Alchemy and conjuration, do tell. :liplick:

with my enchanting build +100 enchanting +grand soul gem my absorb stamina adds +25 absorb stamina, and my absorb health gives +25 absorb health, i dont have absorb magic, but assuming that would be +25 as well

edit: +20 absorb health...for some reason it changed from 25 to 20 after i hit X....not sure why...

i dont have an enchanting potion with me atm, nor mats to make one, but i know the 25 would become 29 with it, and without a potion my +archery is +40%
