High Elf Warriors and other non-optimal choices

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 12:48 am

I was just curious if anyone makes choices like running a high elf warrior or orc pure mage, and how well that works out over the long haul.

Over the long haul it works great. In the start, it works less than stellar. It isn't the future you have to worry about, your skills will catch up.

Race choice means basically nothing after the first few levels. Only one or two races actually have a racial benefit that goes towards a specific choice.

By the time you are level 8 or so your character will be whatever you want it to be. Especially with the ability to choose a 'stone' bonus you can be whatever you want.

Indeed, race means nothing in skyrim. It's just for looks/dialog.

I've allways played Breton's with a *splash* of magic and heavy armor/1h blunt/shield worked for me from daggerfall till skyrim...so yea race choice is ...pretty much cosmetic.

I usually play a Destruction based Khajiit on my first go round in TES games. Makes the first few levels tough as an old boot, but it's extremely satisfying to reach demi-god status from such unusual and humble beginnings!

Only thing that lasts is the powers and abilities that they have, and some of them are super powerful while others aren't so much.

For example, a paladin breton would work just dandy, because the magicka resistance works well with the armor the paladin class gets. An orc's berserker rage, however, would not compliment their magick at all(unless it also multiplies magick damage!).

A High elf would actually make a wonderful warrior, because they do about 8% more damage than a standard height race.

That definitely isn't true. It's one of those made up internet facts.

Yeah, it's true. The higher your scale, the faster you go, the higher you jump, and the more damage you do.

My main character is a Khajiit mage (Favorite class, favorite race). I haven't made a mage of another race yet, so I can't comment on how hard/easy it was compared to others. But it didn't seem very difficult in the beginning.

I just go with what I like the most... Next play through is a Breton assassin and the one after that will be an Orc Battlemage, if Bethesda actually patches Destruction.

Race choice really doesn't matter anymore. I'd say what minimal resistances are left is the only thing that is actually worth taking into consideration and even then... enchanting makes such things of negligible value.

Has anyone exaggerated their character's scale to find out if it actually does affect damage? Otherwise, no proof: no belief.

High Elves are optimal in all fields except mundane stuff like farming and mining but that's only because it bores us. Threadstarter is clueless.

Wouldn't the other modifiers have something to do with it, though? I mean I don't know how it's done in Skyrim with the skill changes, but each race had certain strength, stealth, etc. stats to begin with and some were higher. So even if your scale is shorter and you do less base damage, if you're an orc you would still be doing more damage because of the other modifiers in your favor.

You're better off rolling a Breton, it's pretty much the best all-round race. Perhaps the Dunmer and Nords are viable aswell if you prefer them. You could create an orc (and redguard) aswell if you're planning on a melee specialization because of their strong active skills.
