Nearly 7 days and still only at 57 Destruction...

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 10:14 pm

I've been all over the world, I've cleared about 17 dungeons. I don't know why Destruction is so slow to level, but I do have the Mage stone turned on. Can someone give me a tip on how to increase it faster?

I had thought about summoning creatures to kill, but it doesn't do much. Funny thing is, every time I kill one, I get +1 "Assault" under crime. In fact, I have about 200+ assaults and I've never murdered anyone. Apparently you can assault bandits and deer?

Hmm, i don't use destruction but maybe do the following:

1. Summon a fire atronarch.
2. Hit it until it hates you.
3. Throw fireballs at it (immun to fire so you can do this for a pretty long time).

Do you exclusively use Destruction magic? Because I find I start most battles with Destruction magic, get bored of it not doing that much damage and then just finish off the last 60% of their health with a nice sword. That explains my slow levelling.

In Oblivion I know the magic schools levelled at different rates though, so you'd need to cast like 50 spells to level up one school but 75 to level up another. I'm not sure if its the same for Skyrim.

Alternatively you can level up Destruction by training? I sometimes train the slower levelling skills and then power level the easier/faster skills (Alchemy, Enchanting, Speechcraft etc.) so that I can level up and train again. That is basically how I got from 40 to 50 in Destruction.

I've never done that.

In fact, it seems like they level too fast.

I don't use melee weapons or bows at all. Sometimes I will try to use bows on dragons to get them down, when I can't seem to aim magic (but then lightning is best for this). No, I use destruction and that's it. I've killed so many things, I'm actually trying hard just to find more things to kill. But I will end up killing everything in Skyrim before I get to 75, I think.

You should try to use low level destrucion spells instead of high level spells.
Since you can level smithing to 100 with just producing iron daggers, I assume it is the same to other skills.
Using low level spells kills the monster slower but increases the usage drastically. Give it a try ...

Um, that won't work. Most things will kill me in about 1 or 2 hits if I let them get too close. The only way this would work is if I could somehow paralyze the target, permanently.
Everything else dies so fast to even low level spells, that won't work, either.
I'm really at a loss, here.

You're better off with it the way it is. Power levelling borks the game. Just go about your business in a normal manner and those levels will get there on their own.

So true. Just play the game. I have multiple ways to kill enemies now, destruction spells, summoned weapons, and summoned helpers.

The mind is significantly undervalued in the land of Skyrim, home of axe wielding Nords who get home town bonus's, and as such mages are treated like dirt even when we work so much harder to be stronger.

Its a harsh land for mages in the land of Skyrim, and we often struggle to get by without being one hit.
