Pole-Arms?

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 12:12 am

So the game has Dragons, I think Pole-Arms and Halberds would be the logical addition to future dlc. Having a long reach melee option in combat makes perfect sense in a world with Giants, Sabretooths and Dragons. And what about Bear traps etc to place at the foot of an archer for agressive wildlife?

well the posture and animations for battle axes and warhammers are close to what a halberd would be like. Once the new model format is supported by blender and nifskope, expect a flurry of halberd and poleaxe mods.

hes saying maybe you could stay our of melee range of the dragon for a few hits. sure you can't avoid the fire but what about the wings or from the head?

Well the Dragons eventually land right . Imagine yourself in the role of you character would you really chose a dagger over a Pole arm for such an encounter? I think it would make a good addition to new weapon dlc.

Maybe you could avoid the killing blow attack they have where they grab you with a mouth and toss you around if you had a little range in melee.

people have been asking for spears/pole-arms to be reintroduced in TES for years now. Really, I don't think it will ever happen.

Yes, I would love to see spears and halberds added in.
Ironically, my two favorite weapons in games are spears and fists. Skyrim has neither... Well, it sort of has hand-to-hand, but there are quite a few problems with it.

Is it wrong, that I looked at the tile and thought of it literally. Aka, arms that are poles.

Polearms would be a nice edition, but I don't see myself needing huge reach. Get close to dragon, kill it. Problem solved.

Exactly, when using a spear's range, it is significantly more difficult to be bitten and eaten by a dragon.

Plus using spears against Dragons and Giants brings back fond memories of old Ray Harryhousen Movies ;) this is the main reason it needs to be implemented :)

If you try looking up images of anything like "Dragon Warrior", "Dragon Hunter", "Dragoon" etc, more than half of the images you find will be a person with a spear.

It's obvious that something that keeps you 8-13 feet away from something large with very sharp teeth might be useful. I don't think they're coming back though, hopefully they'll be easy to mod in though.

It should actually be easy as hell, since battleaxes use a perfect wide-grip with passable attack animations. All you have to do is make an axe that looks like a spear.

And if you go look up Monster hunter or hunter blade you'll see half of the pics of people with Giant swords...Just saying.

Difference is that's the title of a game, [censored].
I can't even give an example of something that makes what you just said look any more ridiculous than it already does.

spears definitely make sense and should be a part of any self respecting game involving medieval combat
sure it's not entirely realistic with all the monsters and magic but the basics still apply IMO

I would also like the inclusion of Spears and Pole arms. Both would require new animations though. Your not going to be swinging a Halberd or a lochabor axe like a Great axe, things are to long for that :P Having the option of a two handed spear and a spear and shield would be pretty damn bad ass. But I don't think a spear of any type would be a dragon slaying weapon. A Halberd would be a more effective tool to use on a dragon, big ol axe head on the end with the length of that pole would make for a hard hit. But When I think of the weapons that hero's use to slay man and great beast alike, Its normally a Claymore or a Great axe that is most used. Ya know... :P I would like to have a spear and shield though while my Nord travels Skyrim from day to day, and when things get a little to dicey and my spear isn't gonna save me from that troll, I'll take out my trusty Skyforge Greatsword and hack a [censored] down :)

I would also like to see Slings and javelins (darts) and thrown hand axes for range combat. This is the land of the Nords who are based off Scandinavia/Scottish culture and those 3 weapons were common place. It would feel more barbaric and rough than say a Bow and arrow. Slings would have less range than a bow but be blunt damage with a easy free supply of rocks, or you could buy actual stones from a vendor which fly farther and do more damage. Javelins would have even less range but would out damage the sling and the bow. And the hand axe would be the most damaging but you'd have to be pretty much breathing the same air as the poor guy you were about to throw an axe at.

I'd just like to add here that bear traps ARE in the game. I've found a few scattered throughout dungeons that you can pick up. Unfortunately you can't store them in your inventory, so they're not what you're looking for.

w bear traps are in the game, but like you say they are not able to be stored in Inventory. I would like consumable traps which can be placed like landmines in fallout 3. So as an Archer you can plan snare traps on beasts which pose more of an issue, or even to use them as crowd control in larger skirmish's. Plus I like the spear and shield combo. Even nets could be used as weapons but I understand the problems with modeling them in game.

2H axes are already much like polearms. Short ones, like the Bardiche.

The return of spears would be cool, though. Plus the ability to pick up/plant bear traps, although they don't really do that much damage. Running over a bear trap that I overlooked is more of an annoyance than anything; land mines in Fallout would blow off your legs.
