Solitude Molestation

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 7:00 am

Right, so I have seen this posted a few other places online without any logical answers so I thought I would ask it here. Very early on in the game I went to Solitude and upon entering I witnessed the execution. I ran up on stage without thinking and the guards started attacking me. I thought nothing of it and figured that maybe I was supposed to rescue the poor sod, so I fought back. Killed all the guards in the vicinity and then ran out. Came back later and tried to pay the fine but they only attack on site now. The strangest thing is that when I look at my bounties it does not say that I even have a bounty in Solitude. I wouldn't even care that much except for the fact that now I am at a stage where I need to get into the city to do some quests for the Thieves Guild and would rather not have to kill every guard in order to do this.

Any thoughts? I'm thinking it is a bug but wasn't sure if anyone else had found a solution or not.

Cheers,
Scottie

Very odd. Do you enter the city with your weapon sheathed or in hand? My only idea is to
Spoiler
join the stormcloak legion and take over solitude that way

Ya know what... That might be the problem. I had already joined the stormcloak's when I had entered the first time. Perhaps that is the issue as it is an Imperial city. I will start that line of quests then and see where it takes me because as you have stated, perhaps eliminating the imperial guards will eliminate the problem permanently lol.

I sure wasn't nor am I now mate. I haven't even done the first quest for the stormcloaks yet lol. Goodness only knows, but I guess I will just wait until I help them take that town over to finish those quests for the Thieve's Guild.

if you have a high enough bounty guards will just attack you on sight so try sheathing your weapons near them and the dialog may open up

I think it has something to do with you running up to interrupt the execution.

I got attacked when I interrupted the execution, but for sake of not having to deal with yet another bounty (I'm a pretty horrid assassin and I was doing db quests, so I had one everywhere almost), I just let them kill me so I could start over at the gate and this time not run up on the stage.

Yea, I have tried to let them kill me later on (as I am no so far passed the original point that I cannot go back to before the initial incident) and nothing that I do matters.. Afterwards they immediately want to attack me again. This is apparently a problem that several others have had as I have seen it posted elsewhere. I will give an update if I figure it out or if I take the city for the Stormcloaks later and that fixes it. The agro will not go down and they will not stop attacking. That is the only part that is odd to me. It still does not show that I even have a bounty there. It really is a head scratcher...

Thanks for the replies.

The same thing happened to me, except I was stupid and decided to run away. I left the city (autosaved) and they followed me. My last manual save was hours before. I had to run for like 15 minutes before I could hide from them. The weird thing was that when I went back inside Solitude, the guards didn't care, but the argonian jaree-ra (or something like that) started attacking me and wouldn't stop even when I sheathed and tried to yield. I eventually brought him around a corner and tried to kill him, but he would just go down to a knee then heal to full in a few seconds and attack me again. This went on for like 30 minutes. Finally I left the city with him following me, about 3 minutes down the road I "killed" him again then sprinted back to the city. Now he sits stands by the store and acts like nothing ever happened. Bug or just strange AI coincident?

Wow mate! That has to be one of the strangest things I've heard yet from Skyrim. Wish my encounter with the guards had gone different, however. Just out of curiosity, do you play on the 360 like me or on another platform? I'm thinking there could be a connection with the 360 and this problem as others have said they had it on the 360 as well.

if you try to stop the exicution for whatever reason you get attacked by the guards, if you kill those guards you will have a huge bounty, if you have a huge bounty guards attack on sight. and there is a glitch that does not show your bounties in the menu (i know because i have the same one, i have no idea what guard wants me dead, so i just avoid them all now  ). did you try going in, killing a few, and seathing your weapon? i rember murdering a man in the streets of whiterun for insulting me and the stormcloaks and i had to fight a few guards before they would arrest me and stop attacking

Same guy has been attacking me ever since I did a certain quest there (can't do spoiler tags on my iPhone so I won't elaborate :P ).

Do you know what the commonly understood meaning of molestation is?

I haven't tried that actually but it is worth a try. Thanks for the advice. I guess the bounty glitch makes sense as well. I guess if the bounty is extremely high it just doesn't show up... Interesting glitch.

RobotMilk, do you realise that there is more than one definition for most words in the English language? And yes, not only do I know that definition of the word but that is part of the humour mate. Take it whichever way you want, but every time I go in there the guards harass me so much that I feel like I am being molested or brutalized to a point beyond normality. The fact that it can also act as a pun for the other definition is what makes it funny.

Right so I think I have figured out the problem. Maybe this will help any others with this problem.

I think the problem was my followers. Every time I had tried to go there to pay the bounty before, my followers would immediately start attacking when the guards showed aggression. This meant that no matter how many times I tried to sheathe my weapon, the follower would not relent as well; thus never giving the guards the opportunity to offer for me to pay the bounty or be arrested. So, went there without a follower, the guard accosted me at the gate and I paid the ransom - done deal.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts on the matter.

Well I am on PS3, so I'm not sure there is a common link there. The funny/annoying thing is that I could have avoided the whole thing by saving manually more often or just not trying to escape by running out of the city. Hopefully now I will know better at least.

Also, I know our incidents were different, but just for the record, I didn't have any follower with me at the time.

Yea, that is why I started saving manually quite often as well. Interesting about the follower thing. Thought it might have something to do with it but now I think it was just the game itself. I did what one of the other posters had said to do (giving the guard a few hits and then sheathing my weapon) in another city I had a bounty, and then the dialogue box to pay the fine or be arrested came up; it wouldn't come up before that either. Great game but its still got a few rough edges.

That's a good idea. When I ran into this, I just reloaded the autosave and didn't make the same mistake.
