Votekick too "difficult"

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 6:19 am

First of all I want to thank Crytek to implement votekick in the game.

But there is a little problem I encountered every time I started a votekick against a cheater whitch makes this useful thing more or less useless: people just don't know how to vote or even start the votekick.

So I try to explain to the players how to use it by opening the console and typing "vote". And here comes the next problem: about 50% of the players don't know how to open it or they just don't know what it is... This wouldn't be a big problem if I just could write: "open the console with ^". But I can't because if I press the ^ button the console opens instead of writing a ^... I don't know if I'm making a mistake here but I couldn't figure out how to write a ^ in the chat...
Well and telling the people that they have to press the "caret" button wasn't really successful either, no one knows what this is (at least if english isn't your native language; I had to check up too how it is called).
If you finally get everyone to understand how to vote either 5 rounds passed or the cheater left by himself...

So my proposal is that this "problem" could be simply solved by adding the following sentence (or a similar one) to the sentence: "votekick against ... initiated" after the votekick started:

Press ^ to open the console

I think this would make the votekick system somehow easier (and therefore better) for those who don't read this forum regularly (which I think is the majority of the players).

One of the problems is that the console key is different on different keyboard layouts.

On US keyboards it's the ~ key. On UK keyboards its the key with ` ? and | on it.

Basically we need a GUI kick system.

Hmm, I didn't know that... but it shouldn't be a problem to add these signs too :D

Well, I thought Crytek sure has some ominous reason why they didn't do this already so I wanted to suggest a upgrade of the current system :D

Yeah their votekick system is a joke. Much simpler and less funded games even have GUI votekicking - so there is no excuse for this pathetic attempt at a voting system. I had the same problem with a hacker in a server. He ended up leaving before we could ever successfully votekick him after many, many rounds of trying to explain to noobs just how to vote yes....

Cmon Crytek, are you really that lazy?
