Becoming more and more disillusioned

This game is actually incredibly stable. Should figure out if something is wrong with your computer.

Poor little doves.

When something works well for at least 99% of its users, it's not broken. There could be many reasons for it not to work well on your computer, and it's the computer's fault, and quite likely an incompatibility issue with something.

Just search for the ways other people solved their similar problems instead of whining and blaming developers. Hell, their game has less of those issues than most others, but it's quite impossible to make a game that works perfectly on every single computer ever.

By the way, just saw a thread with good ways to fix some problems like yours, this morning or yesterday night. You should check them out.

Years ago companies made products that worked right out of the box. Today its rush, rush, and rush to market to appease the greedy investor. Quality, by today's standard is a dirty word. For example, I have 6GB of SLI RAM on my system but it will only see and use 4GB. Motherboard manufactures build motherboards to fit 8 or 16 GB of RAM, but software companies such as Microsoft won't allow you to utilize it. Still the computer industry will promote and encourage you to fill up you system with all this crap that can't be used. It's all about the [censored] friggin money, for the CEO's/CFO's and the investors. If my system could utilize my 6GB of RAM I probably wouldn't have the problems that I do have with Skyrim. Incidentally, I have well over 110 mods installed in DA:O and it still runs like a top. Go figure, huh?!?

I feel your pain. While my system is mainly stable, better after I turned on FXAA, I consistent crash when I'm close to Windhelm. I can't even make it to the stables or the surrounding area. EVERY TIME. I'm assuming that I will need to go there at one point. I would really like the option at least.

i've already uninstalled/reinstalled once, just to get my achievements to unlock in Steam. There's the various little bugs that are irritating me, but this CTD, with no error message, is almost gamebreaking. I think it leaves one major sidequest unachievable, but I obviously haven't really gotten that far.

I don't mind minor bugs. I actually expect them. But these CTD are more than the 1% mentioned in IceMaze's rude little post. It is NOT working for 99% of the users.

More frustrating is the fact that there has been nothing said (that I have seen) beyond "wait until after Thanksgiving". Bad form Bethesda.

About two days after this game came out, I made a topic asking people to wait a week+ before posting their rave reviews or intense hates of Skyrim.

This is exactly why. Everyone raved about what a f*cking good game it was, and the reality is it's just average. Better than Oblivion, Worse than Morrowind. 8/10 no more no less.

Well, I have done everything asked of me, both from users and Bethesda Tech Support and then some. I have even updated my motherboard's BIOS. Now, here's the thing? While I dread being premature I read somewhere that launching the game from Steam is preferred for stability. So, I have done that twice now and things seem to be better. However, I haven't been back to Whiterun or Ripten where the game seems to crash constantly. In addition, the two times that I have started the game directly from Steam the textures seem to be loading properly as well. I haven't seen any purplish pink clothes or armor; or, black trees.

Actually, I launch my game through steam. Doesn't really seem to matter as far as my problem goes. I just really want to go to Windhelm and complete the civil war quest. But I can't right now. Your problem seems much worse than mine since you are having problems with Whiterun. I imagine that would just about ruin the whole game. Try and hang in there. I know it's frustrating!

I'm hoping that this patch will fix this problem. But the silence from the devs is deafening.
