Ok, so this is aimed at the people who’s comments are similar to the ones above. Did you even play Fallout 3????
1) Map is smaller. (Don’t even try and fan boy that argument) Why did they make the map so large, only to make 30% of it non playable you say. I don’t know, but its just one more reason Bethesda should have set a team of their own on FNV.
2) Content is lacking flow and a motivated direction. If I see another NCR camp I am going to start mass Postal attacks.
3) Game loot is lacking value in many forms. In Fallout 3, you would find Lunch boxes and toys in schools. In buildings that were industrial you found more of that type of loot. Exc.
4) Invisible walls are “every where” .
5) Quest rewards are very uninteresting.
6) Starting the game with out giving it huge value and incentive. I didn’t care for the character or the bad guy yet, as I hadn’t played the game. Starting it off with a short lame cut scene, didn’t piss me off enough to really care to go find the guys. Maybe if they had 20 minutes of game play, to set it up first.
7) Redoing the companion system was a good idea, to bad the “SPOILER” beret wearing sniper can kill 5 targets before I drop one. He’s ridiculous man, I just run around with out sneaking and pick up loot from all the enemy’s he slams to the ground. I cant keep up with how many he can kill.
8) Location discovery is a joke, maybe a building that you can enter…. Or a boat laying on the ground. Or better yet, a drive in with less in it than a random non marked location from FO3.
9) Quoting one of the Obsidian team saying, “Crafting was a huge thing for FO3 players, so we decided to expand that aspect greatly”. Like cooking on campfires that require picking plants exc. But cant cook on a BB-Q, or use an oven. Just on Campfires that may or may not have an actual fire????? You cant open your Pip-boy to see any of the required materials for tool benches/reloading/campfires. I had to make my own materials list on a notebook from my RL computer desk. Best for last….. You FN’ing morons took out some of the best crafting in the Fn’ing game. Those crafted weapons were awesome. No Nuka grenades….. That was an amazing mistake.
10) If I see a building in the distance with my Bi nocs, this adventure guy sure as hell don’t get excited in FNV. Chances are it has a door with that’s blocked and I cant enter the damn building. This game has more closed structures than it has open ones.
11) Yes FNV has more small settlements than FO3 did. But who cares, they are life less with 1-2 quests. Where the hell is the FNV equivalent to Rivet City/Lamplight/Nukacola Factory/Bethesda/The mall with all of the museums, the mock version on a Vault was awesome. The notion of having a legendary type weapon, such as the .44 rifle in a museum was spot on, not to mention the Abe related clothing. An Aircraft carrier for a City???? PERFECT.... And in many instances, their was several ways into and out of a specific area. Like being able to access the interior of the city from way out in the boondocks in from the subway terminals. But Nope we got the lame ass Vegas Strip with the most ridiculous robots of all time.
12) Go to the North West area above the strip “adventuring” and you will find 90% of the structures locked out from the player. That people is just lazy open world game building. PERIOD, unless you have some fan boy excuse for it? Come on someone give me a reason why they FILLED the game world with this BS.
Now a few things they did, that are were truly an attempt to make the game feel new, that I do commend and enjoy.
1) The iron sights feel isn’t to bad, I like that aspect.
2) The new Guns are fun with the modding. I really like the mods.
3) Ammunition types are a great idea, but they need to be a little more user friendly.
4) The gambling aspect is interesting, but it’s a rather small target audience but impossible not to expect having the whole game and story surrounding it. Hence the idea, lets make a Vegas “aspect” of the game. Not the main map or Story.
5) Above I did say I have a hard time with “expanded crafting” with some simple refinement of the Cooking it would have been a great part of the crafted experience. But the system was solid to begin with. The blueprints were well thought out and you could always access them to see what you need to grab out of storage to go on a crafting run. Just an expansion of the existing blueprint system would have been great. Don't fix it if it isn't broke. If I could scream this and Say 50 incredibly bad words I would…….. WHY DID YOU TAKE OUT THE SET OF CRAFTED WEAPONS YOU $%@#%$#? AND IF I SEE ONE MORE LOCKED BUILDING I AM GOING TO START KILLING ALL NCR I FIND. That's just complete lazy game design.
Stay with me now, I am almost finished with this Book. I could go on and on about how many things they screwed up in comparison to Fallout 3. To sum it up, Obsidian had no reason to change so many things that were not broke. The blue print system was solid. If they wanted to scale back the weapon strength, then do so. Don’t remove great weapons. You guys had the Engine, the tools, all scripting exc. Done before you started. No reason for using so much fill and leaving us true adventure enthusiasts with nothing to do after finding so many locked and blocked areas. Crafting is common sense, if I find a BBQ, I should be able to cook on it. Unless you are just set against FO3, I would invite anyone to dispute the specific things I pointed out. I'm not joking when I say, I had over 500 hours in 4 different char on FO3, But don't dispute my solid points with, “duh dude, its just way better and what you said was just like… stupid". I beg of you Bethesda, in the next installment, please reenlist the crew that worked on, and built FO3.
