Personally I would say the first one.

Personally I would say the first one.

The thing is, it maps a bit better on the texture I used in the second attempt. Also, it'll take advantage of any texture replacers you use, so the "shininess" factor (or lack thereof) is not permanent, so to speak.

I just like the 'rusty' worn look to it better is all. Feels more 'real' to me. Thats just my opinion I'm providing as you asked, ultimately, it is your mod. And you have the final say, which I will respect. You already get a guaranteed DL from me. B)

OMG!
And I was thinking about my next character mostly using throwing weapons!
OMG this is all going into a mod?
These weapons...they're so epic win!

SO HAPPY!

I found another steel texture that didn't have steel in the name, and I applied it to the throwing star, as you http://i468.photobucket.com/albums/rr50/Alaisiagae/Mod%20Screenshot%20MW/Misc/star_steelv2.jpg. What do you all think? Should I go with that one, or http://i468.photobucket.com/albums/rr50/Alaisiagae/Mod%20Screenshot%20MW/Misc/star_steel.jpg?

I'm kinda leaning to your first attempt, mainly because the newer one looks more like an ice (Stahlrim?) weapon while the other really looks like steel.

By the way, do you need any more models made for this?

How about Mithril for that one? Mithril doesn't get much love.

Oh, you know, the more models the better! :P I could really go for some dart meshes now, actually. I'd like to fill in the ranks for bonemold, chitin, iron, and adamantium. I also need a chitin throwing knife and a bonemold throwing knife.

@Thissguy: There is no Mithril weapon/armor set in Morrowind.

Yeah I know. Like I said mithril gets no love.

It was in Daggerfall and Oblivion.

I find it odd since mithril is usually an elven/dwarven thing and Morrowind is the land of dark elves and "dwarves."

*eye twitch*

Don't even get me started about, I'm a lore nut. The general feeling is that mithril was a hold over from the DnD roots that Arena spawned out of. And the dwemer were elves. I chalk the re-introduction of Mithril from poor (as in, uncreative) dev choices (*cough* Todd howard's decision to make Cyrodiil more Tolkeinesque so it would be 'familiar' to gamers). But, that's a debate for a different topic. As it stands, I don't really have any intention of introducing new weapon materials to the game. Rather, I'm going to work with the many, many diverse materials already present in morrowind.

Hey, maybe dreugh carapaces make good throwing stars? Hmm, I'll have to experiment...

Do you have any pics of the type of darts that you're looking for? The only pics that I can find are a little... modern looking for my tastes, although if that's what you're looking for I'll make it. I have a few ideas for other throwing knives, but I have to admit that I'm going to save a few for my own project. :P

Oh, and the one I posted in the OP.

Or... I dunno, you are right, many darts seem to be modern competition darts. I guess.. let your imagination guide you?

Hugs for Swrdphantom and Bodvar! :hugs: Swrphantom has created a lovely chitin throwing dagger, as well as a couple of nice dart meshes. Bodvar has resized some of his throwing knives (which were a tad on the small size when I tested them out in-game).

Okay, I made the icons today. Next step is getting these in the CS. Then, I'll need somebody's help adding these into the leveled lists. I was also hoping to add them into merchant inventories, but I'm not sure if doing so runs a high risk of creating conflicts with other mods.

Why not use http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=6966?

add them to a new container with the owner set to the person selling it.
How would that conflict?

Okay, that looks good. Now, what about the Leveled item lists? Should I edit those directly (add the items), or do I have to create separate lists? I really have no idea how to do this, so if anyone wants to explain it or can link a tutorial for me, that'd be great. I mean, it'd all go faster if someone else did it, but it is good for me to learn more about the CS.

It hurts my brain. ;_; Maybe I'll just stick with adding these to merchants... So, like, how do I make sure there is a restocking supply? I make the number negative right?

Alai, you are most definitely a Literary/Artistic type :D

For infinite restock, indeed you put -5 for there to always to be 5 in the inventory.

Also, just click open a new 'Leveled items' in the CS, (it should be a green icon) add the items you want to the list, then put the percentage that its NOT going to show up (Crazy Beth devs....), decide on the container, and add your custom list to the containers. Just load up a bandit cave and the like, and see the id on a reference, and you'll know what you're looking for.

And yet I did Calc 1 and 2 in High School! :o

Okay, so I have to add these to specific loot containers? There isn't some general list they grab from, like in Oblivion? Hmm, I'm not sure I want to hunt through hundreds of containers to find ones that are appropriate for containing missile loot weapons. Sticking with the merchants, using Sandman's resource mod, seems to be my best bet. Is the process for creating a merchant list the same as the one you described - the % chance of the item not appearing, etc? I can just pick out weapon merchants and stuff throwing knives in them (wait, that doesn't sound right...).

No, not yet. I think I might end up releasing them as a resource, because I don't know when I'll get around to making loot lists and finishing my weapon balance mod and stuff. So, at least other people can have fun with them, even if I still lack the time/skills to put them in the game all proper-like. Same goes with the polearm mod I was working on.

I didn't make any progress on that larger balancing mod over Christmas break, and I don't really have a lot of free time I want to spend learning loot lists and trial & error in game. It just doesn't feel fair that I should hold on to the models even if I don't have them in a mod. So, that's why I think I'm going to release them as a resource, along with the new arrows, bolts, polearms, and other weapons I've accumulated (with the not-insignificant help from other, talented modders) on my hard-drive. :)

I'll most likely start posting any throwing-weapon updates in http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1062108 thread, because these are weapons, too. Just give me a while to get screenshots up there, I might have to make new ones 'cause I re-organized my work folders a few months ago...

Most old screenies have been removed from my photobucket account. New screenshots have been taken and uploaded at the aforementioned thread.
