The Woodcutter's Wife

Like many, I enjoy the books of the Elder Scrolls series - enough that I frequently annoy my girlfriend with talks of them, reading them out loud, and every other manner of what she refers to as nonsense. But since Skyrim's release I have been intrigued by, and one would say, even plagued by one two book series known as The Woodcutter's Wife and The Cabin in the Woods.

It is, in essence, two types of stories, one being a morality/ghost tale that I initially shrugged off, while all the same contemplating that it was a particularly well written ghost story. It was my discovery of The Cabin in the Woods that had me particularly eyebrow raised, however, as upon examination, I realized that Bethesda took the time to create a second version of this story that is not even in the same style, but is instead an "account" of someone's encounter with the ghost from the first tale.

Somewhere in the back of my mind I always harbored the possibility that perhaps, just perhaps Bethesda would not have gone through this effort if there wasn't something put in the game to reflect this.

I've gone through dozens of smaller theories and decided to at last trek out to find this mysterious axe wielding ghost.

My searches have so far only turned up Ghost Hunters style TAPS proof, only circumstantial evidence, nothing solid and hard.

So I turn to you all for the great scavenger hunt. Is the specter of the overly paranoid woodcutting wife real? Is she stalking the pine forests?

For my own experiences I've heard things in the southern pine forests west of Falkreath, whereby upon walking through the woods I heard what sounded faintly like sobbing that turned into the loudest single sound I've heard in the game (as in, take my headset off, that is so loud) that was a woman's shrieking. One person insisted that this must have been a Wispmother, but I saw nothing of the sort and I am certain they don't make that kind of feminine, screaming noise, particularly if you haven't actually "encountered" them.

As a piece of back story about this particular incident, I was journeying through the woods somewhere between 11pm and midnight, encountered a dragon, slew it, and then dispatched a small pack of Necromancers. I proceeded roughly north towards Evergreen Grove when I heard a shriek in the distance that grew consistently louder until I decided that every single "NOPE" was given that day and fast traveled away.

So has anyone else seen anything that would lead you to believe she exists? Shall we begin the search to find out if I'm just crazy? Or maybe I'd just heard a Spriggen Orgy off in the woods? What do you all say?
