I can't imagine pure melee warriors killing dragons

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 1:34 pm

Well, my current character's a mage, so when i see a dragon i start zapping it and such. For my past 3 dragons i've noticed that they don't really land on the ground if they're above a certain hp (was it 40%?); so how's a pure melee warrior gonna whack it? does it mean i NEED some form of ranged combat?

dragon shouts or bow or companions.

there is a dragon shout that forces a dragon to land... as long as there is room.

Dragons lands at any hp if there is a surface big enough for them, they just tend to land more often on lower health.

My dual wielding melee soon has his 10th dragon killed.

They do land even at 100%hp, it just takes a while.

They do land.

You can force them to land by taking cover under something, so they can't attack you from the air.

Yeah, they land at any hp...only limit is where you're fighting them and if it's room big enough for them.
Fought a Blood Dragon yesterday in Windhelm and it was a PAIN cause it kept landing on rooftops, flaming me and the npcs....and FINALLY I've seen the first npc dying to a Dragon attack on a city.
Too bad he was a quest giver...lol

Yeah, they definitely land, it's a bit random. And when they are down.. well, they are dead. It's, in fact, incredibly easy to off them.

I use shouts and bow usually until it lands, or just block with my shield as i have the perk that stops alot of damage from magic atacks arrows when blocking.

So if you're a warrior on a mountain with a dragon roar heard you'd better run? :)

I've finished off enough dragons to have give or take 70 bones and scales each.

Typically either bow them down if they keep jumping on buildings but for the most part I just use potions able to beat anything constantly getting max HP but it's just annoying pausing all the time.

Just bored thinking I should start over with a lizard because even if you use heal spell you can't attack at the same time.

I only use melee, no bows no magic and I get him to land everytime by just hiding from his breaths, eventually it will land.

Heavy Armoured(Legendary Ebony Armour) Duel Ebony Blades (60+ damage + Absorb Health), lvl 31 Female Nord, Dragonrend + a few hits, = Dragons dead in about 10s. (Adept Difficulty still).
The only scary dragons for me are the fire breathers as i'm just about emune to cold.

Hide behind objects so they cant shoot/breath at you, it forces them to land at wich point you just run up to them and smash there wings :) Add in some resistance to there breath type and you got a pretty easy time killing it.

There is no trick, they just land when they want to. More so in open spaces.

100 Archery here, with all the perks and enchanted bows and armour (double enchanted pieces and 45%+ on archery as one of the two enchantments wherever possible) to a ridiculous state. I bring down even the elder dragons in a couple of shots... I complained before that the dragons were waaaaay too easy for a game that basically is ABOUT them. Maybe I should have been a warrior to have made it more of a challenge.

I've killed plenty as pure melee but it's harder to get them, for sure. It's a lot of running and covering until they land.

I've had one dragon I couldn't kill because he couldn't land at all due to a lack of space. It was in the pass between Helgen and Ivarstead where there's only rocks and such around and not much clear ground. But almost all of them land after a while.

I easily slay dragons with my two-handed Nord on expert difficulty. With weapon and smithing perks I do alot of damage. Not a problem at all, even without enchanting weapons or poison.

I personally just stand there in front of them full nvde shouting: "I AM BEOWULF!" and taking every breath till I die or it lands.

Nah, seriously they do land, just might take a while sometimes, thank god for the Magic resistance perks from block :P

Sadly the game is not designed for you to play melee alone, if you do you must in the beginning rely on your companion or enchanting magic resist as you are unable to get close enough to hit.

Dragon can kill you either with 2 melee hits or with 1-2 shouts making it nearly impossible to get close.

I had 60 block, 48 heavy armor, 63 one-handed and when i fought my first dragon i had 380 armor factor, 270-280 health, frost dragons are easy with resistance if you are a Nord.

with archery and magic it is so easy enough to kill anything.

i have done 120 hours with a mage and 20-30 with a pure melee fighter so far.

*looks at his full set of Dragon Armour and all the souls he's nabbed*

Uh...yeah, pure melee works just fine, actually =P Sure I Shout at them and from time to time get out the bow when they're bugging me by perching on houses.
But had 0% problem with them with a nearly pure melee character here.

Dragons are pathetically easy and literally made out of tissue paper. I'm using a rogue/assassin type character on master, and I can take out dragons just fine using the warrior method of rush in and spam attack until dead using daggers. The only time dragons are ever hard, is when you are low level with subpar gear. Past level 20 with a half optimal character, and they like almost everything else in the game is a joke. Marked for death/dragonrend only adds insult to injury.
