Optimizing Ranger build

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 5:34 pm

Well...I suffer from the Elder scrolls disease where I make and remake toons 50 times before finally settling on one. My latest interation that I am strongly leaning too boils down to this, a ranger type build:

Race: Redguard (don't like Khajit, argonian, or wood elves...went reguard for that sweet adrenaline rush).
Max Two hander OR Max one hander dual wield (not feeling sword and board).

Light armor
Archery max
Stealth
Smithing
Alchemy
Block IF going two hander

Will join: Companions, Thieves, and possibly dark brotherhood...

The big question is how much success have you guys had with light armor and Two handers or Dual wield. Anyone else have a good ranger build? What is more rangerish....dual wield or big ole' two hander.

Whenever I think of a Ranger, I naturally think Strider/Aragorn so I'd go Two Hander. I think you can hit armor cap with the best light armour and some fortify light armor enchants/potions so it's perfectly viable.

I went with this same build using 2-hander. I choose to use a 2-h axe, seems like something a woodsman/ hunter type should use. So far I've had pretty good success, only level 18 at the moment though.

hard to picture a redguard woodland ranger, because Hammerfell is a wasteland/desert province.

Its a Barbarian or Ranger build and the Adrenaline rush is the bees knees. It seemed like something a ranger would have, being able to call on his energy reserves and push longer in combat or trekking through the wilderness...so redguard I went!

That aside, for a ranger...Dual Wield or Two Hander...Is Two hander viable with light armor? What are some experiances anyone has had with dual wield or two hander in light armor.

Okay one last question. Looking at two handers. If blocking viable as a skill to level if I use a two hander and maxing shield wall, quick reflexes, and disarm?

This may make me reconsider my first perk point...but at the moment since I am opting reguard I may go dual wield as I get the bonus to one handers (bonus to block though too if I go two handers and block is worth it!)

So right now looking at:
Dual Wield one handers
Archery
Sneak
Light Armor
Alchemy
Smith
...and maybe Block still with blocking with one handers or perhaps with a light shield...doesn't feel rangerish though and RP aspects are important...immersion is key.
