Water battle flaw

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 5:27 pm

Just want to wonder if anyone else is as annoyed as me with the fact that you can swim, explore, find/harvest items, and be attack in the water, but you cannot attack anything in the water. Why is this and please fix this.

I don't want to fist anything!

Maybe for things that make sense as working underwater since its near impossible to swing a weapon underwater so that it does harm.. bows obviously don't work.. shouts are verbal... spells don't seem to be verbal but I imagine the energy disappates underwater.. maybe some spells *could* work... I suppose.

Either way, its not worth fisting.

EDIT: You know, your post was 100% more interesting when fix was spelt fist.. before you edited it.

lmfao that was ace.

To reply seriously though, try punching underwater... Impossible? Yeah. Can imagine it wouldn't be easier with a warhammer, could you?

I understand in water you don’t move or have all the abilities you would on land, but this is not a game of reality. Have you ever tried casting a spell or jumping up a mountain it’s impossible, that why it’s a fantasy game so why not make it so you can fight in water. make it so you’re a bit slower and not as effective as on land, It’s just annoying to be out exploring the water and a fish comes and attacks you and you can do nothing. And sorry for the typo at first.

Don't apologise for the typo, we all do it and it was funny. Your post made complete sense.

I apologise for being flippant about it. But I kind of like the vulnerability you have in water. Plus, even stabbing with a dagger wouldn't have the energy to hurt anything like a fish before it whipped away, maybe if spears were still in the game.

I'm not expecting it to be realistic.. I just came back from fighting a dragon on a mountain after all, but I don't think its a issue that needs fixing or special treatment.

If they implemented it, frankly I would start demanding underwater temples for argonians and mages with waterbreathing spells aplenty.....actually.. that would be utterly amazing...

I've done quite a bit of sports diving and can attest that bows would work fine under water for a range of at least three meters. Thrusting weapons would also work fine.

daggers and generally "stabby" weapons would still work underwater however
fireballs = no
frost + water = a block of ice = no
lightning = you just had spell "ground" itself in the water and electrocute yourself
bows wouldn't work in water either.
punching would just punch to nothing.

in theory all your left with is stabby or CLAW slash via wolf which should work. the fact that it would make all mobs ezmode if you jsut move into water then stabbed them to death for 1 hp a stab with no risk is why u can't and is also why waterwalk got removed as "water standing still" while shooting/spelling at a mob who has to swim then can't attack is broken.

STrangling the slaughterfish should work :celebration: im kinda neutral about this, mostly because they removed lots of slaughterfish from waters. In oblivion almost every single natural water feature would have some idiot mudcrab lurking at the bottom or some lunatic fish biting your head off.

What really bugs me about the water in this game is that swimming in water that's cold enough to support ice would kill you in under 3 minutes. Throw armor into the mix and you've got a real problem. Then I remember that it's a game, and I'm playing it for fun.

Yea the, underwater temples would be amazing and hope someday they do such things. I remember in morrowind they had a sort of underwater temple even thou it wasn’t much to it. But the argons being able to breathe under water is just a waste of a perk but fun. Maybe underwater temples and fights would make a good DLC.

I agree 100% about the ice cold water, first time I jump in the water I thought I would get hurt or something cause of it but nope I can just swim along with no problems. I myself like to think its cause I’m dragon born and must have some hot blood. Even thou I would imagine a dragon is cold blooded but then how they hell do they live frozen north poles hehe.
