Good time for starting MQ as 2h Warrior.

Hello guys,

I started my 2h warrior-playhrough (Heavy Armor, 2h, Restoration, Alteration mainly). I am about to bring the Dragonstone form the grave to the Jarl′s Courtmage in Whiterun. However, I still hesitate to do so, since I′m just lvl 6 and not really looking forward to meet Random-Dragons alone on open plane. I had bad experiences facing them early in the game as full-Melee-Char.

What level would you suggest for an Expert/Master-Difficulty-Setting to give the Dragon Stone to the Farengar? When will I be ready to kill random-Dragons as 2h warrior without TOO much trouble?

Thx.

Random dragon encounters are scaled to your level. I met my first at level 5. It was tough, but survivable. For all the level-scaling flaws people gripe about, I find the game does a good job of tailoring itself to you, your playstyle and your level.

So at level 6 you should do fine!

You can start it anytime you like, honestly. Dragons scale to your level, and to be honest they're actually pretty weak compared to some of the other enemies you're going to run up against. Trick as a 2H warrior will be to run around like a headless chicken and hunt for cover until the dragon lands, and then take it to town like a $2 hoker.

My point is, most people understand under "doable" spamming potions when worst comes to worst; I don′t want to do this at any cost, since it is (for me!) an outdated Diablo 2 -like game mechanic.

I could handle to consume one or two potions during the fight, but that′s very much it.

Is it still possible do kill a random-Dragon with lvl 6 under these circumstances?

Thanx for your responses so far. :)

Yes, it's still possible to defeat them without an unnecessary potion abuse; proper strategy and confidence are the key.

"Level" doesn't mean as much in this game as it does in others. There's nothing you can't do at any stage of the game. You can start the main quest at level 5 or at level 50 and it will play out pretty much the same way.

I'm not that enthusiasitc about the dragons appearing randomly. personaly, i think next time i do the claw quest i'm just gonna raid the chests & leave the wall + stone alone.

I left the MQ alone for a along time last time, untill about lvl 15 with my archer/thief/assasin character, and i had a tough time taking the Deragon down myself with the guards help. The next one was easier as i hid behind trees, and then a 3rd one, Blood dragon at level 28 was a nightmare. Luckily some Necro mages were near by & the dragon was distracted,

That'll actually depend on the terrain, and the set piece. Random dragons will generally land quickly, and often in open area. You run into trouble when trying to fight them on narrow cliff paths, and in villages, where there isn't that much space to navigate. You'll want to lead them into open terrain as best as possible.

Its entirely possible to kill dragons without potion spamming. You need to learn their attack patterns and be able to evade them as best as possible. As a two-hand warrior myself, I find the best strategy is to remain mobile, and at the side of the dragon. I'll usually fight at the wing, and move around the back with a sprint to evade the tail slam.

Your best bet, for early survival, is to keep a few fire resist potions with you for these occasions. (Later, add frost resist). If you can get your hands on a fire resist necklace, you'll be golden.

I agree that potion spamming is annoying. I fell for that trap early on, but eventually stopped because it was ruining the game for me.

Nice to see someone shares my point of view.
As for your experiences, thanks!
