The 2 main Skyrim complaints...

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 5:49 pm

1) Smithing/Enchanting/Alchemy is OP. You can't do any real damage unless you spend time grinding and then you become too powerful.

2) The game is dumbed down to simple combat with few RPG elements.

Am I the only one seeing the irony here? Isn't grinding an RPG staple? If you really have to use smithing or stock up on potions to maximize your potential, then how is it different from old RPGs that required you to spend so much time crunching numbers? And if you don't, then isn't the game really balanced?

So many people just jumping on the bandwagon and convincing themselves that the game's broken.

The first one is the one I'm concerned about. Hope they apply a few fixes so that people who arent trying to exploit the system dont accidently break their games.

No, it isn't. Grinding is a staple of crappy RPG.
I miss how in old RPGs combat wasn't the main game feature and sometimes fighting wasn't neccesary whatsoever to complete the game.

It might be fine, but you'll still see people post complaints about it.

Dude, how could you forget Herpa Derpa? It only completely destroys immersion and practically makes the game unplayable.

And I'm not even gonna mention Derpy de Herp.

You rang?

Also, don't you think it's ironic that you view people complaining as "trolls" and "whiners", but you're spending your free time purposefully crapping up every single negative thread you can find just because you can't handle people having complaints about a video game?

It seems as though you can't handle me having complaints about people having complaints about a video game.

I can, hence why this is the first time I've decided to ask you after seeing so many of your posts. I'm honestly wondering what's wrong with you.

Probably quite a few things, though complaining about small / useless things about a perfectly fine game isn't one of em :D

I dont have the game, but from what I've read sofar, the main concerns are:

1) skill / perk balance;

2) limited quest/dialogue choices.

I am not considering UI or the removal of attributes, as I read many ppl saying the former is just a pain (doesnt prevent pleasant gaming experience) and the latter most do nto consider a serious flaw.

If both claims above are legit, then both are relevant. The skill / perk one makes some of them appear useless or of little value, making some class designs underdeveloped in comparison. The 2nd one makes the complaining ppl feel there was no brains put into story writing and the inevitable comparison with Morrowind arises again (though I have not played MW I read a lot about). And when you add both together, many feel uninterested in either going on with the 'quests' or that the game has little replay value - a real killer, specially for RPG's.

That doesn't explain your compulsion to crap up every single slightly negative thread, though. What is it about people complaining about Skyrim that upsets you and gets you so unhinged that you have to troll it? I've even seen you go in to non-negative threads and write flame-bait about "the whiners".

Your behaviour is so utterly abnormal. Do you even play the game or are you just here hoping to score a Christmas card from Bethesda?

1) Smithing/Enchanting/Alchemy is OP.

It would help if you mentioned what "OP" is. Lazy people enjoy dumbing their posts down to a few letters as if everyone else knows what their lazy acronyms mean. On message boards that I frequent, "OP" normally refers to "original poster", as in the topic creator. So, you're saying that smithing, enchanting, and alchemy are... original poster? For a moment I thought you meant "obsessive compulsive", but that's "OC", and more properly "OCD" for "obsessive compulsive disorder". Maybe you meant "OG", as in "original gangster"?

2) The game is dumbed down to simple combat with few RPG elements.

Am I the only one seeing the irony here? Isn't grinding an RPG staple?

What are RPG elements? Typically "RPG elements" refer to character building, which is what we do in this game. You complain that you want grinding. Really? You think most of us want to spend ten hours in the same dungeon killing the same rats a thousand times so that we can finally fight the rat king and move on to the next grind session?

I'm also not sure how you wanted the combat to be expanded. What are you wanting, ridiculously convoluted button sequences to perform goofy, unrealistic acrobatic attacks whereby your character dances and spins through the air with a flurry of sword twirls? Your character fights basically like he would if he was real. The most effective way to attack something with your sword is to swing it at it, not to twirl about through the air with rapid sword dances, as that may look cool in a movie but isn't practical for combat, especially considering that it would get tiring pretty quick. I'm reminded of a scene in one of the Indiana Jones movies in which this bad guy threatens Indy, presenting a flurry of waving sword dances, only for Indy to take two seconds to simply shoot him. Dancing around with swords didn't get him very far.

I suppose this would be ten times better:

I assure you, I am just very curious. If it bugged me I wouldn't continue talking to you.

Though, maybe that's something you might try? Just don't read negative threads and save yourself a future heart condition.

The OP listed only two complaints. In a game of this magnitude, basically only two complains means only one thing: the game is amazing, only needing a few tweaks.

Why reprehend people that come here to post their legit feelings and try to show Bethesda what can be improved? Let them talk! Even if some of them post in a harsh way, lets ignore it and try to see their goals, not their means. If someone complain about smithing, why bash the guy instead of really try to evaluate that feedback? Maybe he is completely right, just don't know how to say it..

Cause haters gonna hate and fan-boys gonna fan-boy. These are the two constants in an ever evolving universe....

If it wasn’t for these two groups trashing and destroying pretty much every thread on every gaming forum, we would have nothing to post about.

If people think that "grinding" is a staple for RPGs, then the genre has been hopelessly, irrevocably lost. The ship sailed with Morrowind.

I said it already in other forums, and I keep saying it: WoW is a really great game, but it created some terrible habits. :)
