It's not easy being Dragonborn...

Post » Sat Dec 10, 2011 8:20 am

I'd had enough of the pressure. I'd had enough of the expectation. The fate of the world lies in my hands, they said. I am the chosen one. The Dragonborn. It is my destiny. My responsibility....it got too much. I fled. I returned to Whiterun, bought a house and married the girl of my dreams. It started off so well. I'd taken to being a smithy. I make a few pieces of armour and weaponry here and there and sell them at a decent price. I'm not great but I make do. I was just another nobody. I was happy.

It started off like any other day...

I'd had my home cooked meal (always a pie, I thought) got on my clothes and boots and headed down to the smithy. Adrianne was in a good mood. She worked at the
grindstone and talked about how great Eorland is while I worked the forge. I was about to makes another piece of leather armour when i realised i had no leather left, nor hides or pelts to make more. So I grabbed my bow and arrow and headed out on the hunt. I ventured into the woodland near riverwood and managed to get myself a few
deer and a wolf. Not bad. I saw riverwood was close so I stop in to the Sleeping Giant for an ale and some steak. It was nearing lunch after all. However, while I was crossing the bridge I heard that familiar sound. I felt that familiar feeling. It soared above me and dove before I could grab my sword. It was a tough one. A Blood. So I summoned my atronach for assistance while I got myself together. The fight was intense but i was clearly getting the better of it. I hit it with a couple of firebolts and knocked it out of the air. It rested right in the middle of the town, it was weak and dying. However, with it's last bit of strength it took a breath..flames everywhere...the damn flames. I was across the river when it happened. I hit it with another firebolt and it perished. However the true damage had already been done. I crossed the river and saw him lying there. Alvor. The blacksmith. His wife and daughter kneeling and crying over his lifeless body. I could only stand there. Alvor knew he was no dragonslayer...but he tried to be. I am. I'm dragonborn...and I gave it up. Now Alvor is dead. He will be the last.

It's not easy being Dragonborn....

That literally just happened.

His death is on your hands, coward. You were called through destiny to fight these beasts. You were called to protect the land from these monsters and what did you do? You ran. You fled. You put your tail between your legs and hid. You thought you could live a normal life, well I hope that you realise now that you cannot. Pick up your bow, Dragonborn. Leave your wife and home and do what you were born to do.

It is now your duty as the dragonborn to reach level 90 conjuration and turn Alvor into a Dead Thrall. Just drag him into Lydia's room in Breezehome lest he rot outside!

I know, I know...I decided to spend one last night in The Sleeping Giant in his honour. Ale, mead and music aplenty. Then off to The Throat of the World first thing...

Shame on you. I will not defile his body! Alvor will rest peacefully. I owe him that much!

Good. Avenge him, brother.

I do feel your pain though. I was spending quite a bit of time travelling between Whiterun and Riverwood chopping wood for money and crafting iron to improve my skills. One day though, I was leaving Riverwood and a dragon swooped down. Not feeling strong enough (and having no bow of my own), I fled back to the town to enlist the help of guards. The screamed and peppered it with arrows, but it perched on the sawmill and blasted Hod. In the face. Twice. Stallion of a man that he is, he staggered to his feet and tried to flee, but the dragon circled around, spewing flame down the main street, shrieked and dived down on him, biting him in two. I was devastated. The bones of that dragon now lie outside his mill in memorial.

We all have the ''Why me?'' moments. All we can do is think about people like Alvor and Hod, Gods rest them, and we should remember. You can chop as much wood as you want when this whole gods awful mess is over with. FUBAR...
