Out of Body Experience in Novac with Andy Quest

Post » Sat Dec 10, 2011 4:16 pm

Hi Folks,

I have the following problem with completing "Ranger Station Charlie." When I first visit Charlie (with Willow and company) and after he teaches my character the take-down move. When I try to talk with him again, to get the quest the following happens:

"Charlie is back sitting on his bed, as he was on first contact. As he gets up and walks towards his kitchenette area and I click on him to start another conversation, while in third person, I am suddenly thrust into first person and a shadowy naked figure with no head appears just in front and off to the left of may character ."

I have tried to redo the the initial contract, but the end result is still the same--even after deleting that particular save. I have gone away and done something else, come back and tried to do it again: and again, with the same negative results. Consequently, I can not complete all quest in Novac. Any thoughts of what might be happening or not happening? I have ran a defrag on the entire Steam folder which made no difference --despite the fact that there were 7 fragmented files fixed. I even ran it through Adaware with zero results. I also ran FNVEdit which come out with zero errors?!? THanks.

Oh yea! I probably have 100 mods attached, but none of late. I have updated some mods, but previous to that it was all working just fine. Nothing shows up in FNVEdit. How else can I troubleshoot? I am not a modder, merely as user of mods. Thanks.

Well it could very well be any of those 100+ mods unfortunately. First Ive heard of an issue like this and its usually the fault of a mod.
I dont think the developers meant the game to be modded so heavily in the first place so issues can arise.

What I recommend to most people is disable all your mods, disable archive invalidated, backup first then delete the two .ini files in your save game directory, then try tthe game (fallout.ini and falloutprefs.ini).
The game will re-do the video settings. Start the game, load your save and see if the issue persists. If the issue goes away its a mod. Then try re-enabling them a few at a time. Its a pain to do I know but imo with
100+ plus mods your either need to know what your doing or your just asking for issues to crop up.

Thanks for the tip.You are right it is a pain it the [censored] to do, just for one quest. As a side note, I have about 106 mods attached to my Dragon Age Origins and have updated them as the modders update their mods as I have very little problems with the game crashing. Now don't get me wrong, I am not faulting the developers of Fallout New Vegas. I have had these moods for some time now attached to FNV. This problem just started recently. I had just finished a game a couple of days days ago where I had no problems completing that particular quest or any others for that matter. On the other hand, I have always had problems with the game locking up when you go through certain doors, like the Good Springs Saloon; or, any of the gates leading to the Strip: and, a couple others. However, I have learned to save often. I think one or the other of these two may be the problem--since these were the last two that I updated just recently: "Vurt's WFO" and "Badlands."

Well, I will be darn. It was the "Project Reality .ESP" file that was causing it. Thanks again for your help. It was much appreciated.
