Pimp-Boy 3 Billion disappointment

Post » Sat Dec 10, 2011 10:27 am

Finally got the Pimp-Boy 3 Billion and am disappointed that for a female character the device comes up at a crooked angle. I tried a fix from nexus that fixes the meshes for female characters but it didn’t work and rendered the Pimp-Boy completely unreadable. To get the Pimp-Boy 3 Billion you need to do How Little We Know and it’s very easy to screw the quest up and not be able to get the Pimp-Boy 3 Billion like I did with my first character. It looks like I’ll fall back to using the regular Pip Boy because the crooked angle renders the device difficult to use.

Did you install the fix correctly? Is the .esp checked off? Is the load order correct? Probably should be last in the order.
If you used FOMM to install try installing manually.

I’m not running any mods, just the add on packs, and the .esp was checked in the Data Files part where you first startup to play the game. When I would tab to bring the Pimp-Boy up it just showed the characters arm with a rectangular polygon on it. Putting the Pimp-Boy down there was a translucent polygon in front of my character with a large “!” on it so the fix was unusable and had to be deleted.

Did you include the mesh files? That "!' usually means it cant find the mesh files. 2 mesh files go in data->meshes->pimpboy3000 folder. I wouldn't trust the load order from the data files selection in the launcher.
Try Fallout mod manager. Make sure the .esm is last in the order.

The fix I got had 3 files

pimpboyfemale.esp
pipboyarmfemale.nif
pipboyarmfemalenpc.nif.

and said to put them all into the Data folder. I’m assuming the .nif files are mesh files? If so I need to put them in the right folder which I’ll try when I can get to my machine again.

EDIT

It works – Thanks! First I installed FOMM and applied weapons mods expanded and got some good weapon mods now, this was to make sure FOMM worked. I had made a typo in my folder creation naming it pimpboy3000 (from the original pipboy) instead of pimpboy3billion. The comment section on the mod said to copy the zip file to the data folder, right click and ‘extract here’ and the folder structure in the zip file put everything in the right place. I deleted the unused pimpboy3000. Doing things on little sleep can cause simple maddening foul ups like this. The pimpboyfemale.esp is second to last in the load order but it works.

The Pimp-Boy 3 Billion is cool but kind of bright and gaudy. Depending on your angle to the sun it’s almost too bright to use and I hope at night the brightness doesn’t affect concealment or give my position away. After all this I may end up falling back to the original Pip-Boy 3000. I’m glad this works and now I can have some fun with more mods.
It's too bad the original unmodified game didn't take female characters into account for this.
