all the guilds svck, they are, in the words of sheogorath, "boring boring BORING!!!!!". bethesda thought the random quests would fill the guilds out, they were wrong, dead wrong. the dark brotherhood has no quests that involve any ingenuity, the thives guild went form being thugs (the way they should be) to dungeon delvers fairly fast, the college has an apprentice let in without any real test of magical ability (which is not needed normally, but the girl out front said you need something to offer the college i yoru going to get in, a singel spell is nothing to the college), the companions went form mercs (as they should be) to being warlords (not to mention the speed at which you find out about the circle). above all, every single guild had only a handfull of short quests in a half-assed attempt to make a, crappy, story-line

Exactly my point, i would gladly trade 100 random quests for a 10 really interesting quests, i am really disappointed in the guilds quest design, companies guild- go kill this monster(spawns randomly in a house or place) or beat up that person( boring much ? ), dark brotherhood- go kill 3 people( 1 person sits in abandon camp with cloths on, 1 is in a house, 1 by the river and all are poor citizens) i mean its just boring who would find that fun to do over and over again!

And please don't post spoilers some people haven't finished the main quest line, just talk in general about all quests.

I think one reason why the Oblivion dark Brotherhood quests seem better is because you are told exaclty how to kill the target in order to get your bonus. These ways of killing them were normally fun(ny). Skyrim gives you a lot more choise with how to kill the targets, usually giving you a time frame instead.

I'm trying to think of which quests were actually really fun for the Oblivion Dark Brotherhood... Whodunnit, Imperial prison, poisoning that guy in a coma or whatever was wrong with him... Help me out?

After being promoted to the Black Hand, the quests were all the same: Go here, kill the target in a secluded area where you're not going to be seen, go to the pay drop.

The bonus requiments are very stupid too, don't kill the guy on the main road ? i mean wow, really? Or bonus is hide the body ? They are just bad and that is all to it.

Agreed. It all felt kind of lazy. I get that the DB has sort of disintergrated, but instead of working your way up through the ranks with hard work and fun kills.... you get told you're the listener after the first three assassinations.

I miss dropping deer heads on people and replacing their medicine with poison.

I agree with that. The bonuses were to make the quests harder in this one, not more fun which is what it seemed like in Oblivion.

To be honest the bonuses were so dumb they weren't even that hard to do,even the last quest wast boring that you can just hack and slash till the end of it, oh well i still have the skyrim main story line to complete, lets hope at least that will have some depth in it.

Well, you could hack and slash through any quest. Doesn't mean you're meant to. I sneaked past all the guards without being seen...

I agree. I was rather disappointed with DB and Companion questlines. In Oblivion, they were very unique. Only thing I didn't like in Oblivion was the item level scaling. I usually waited until at least level 30 to go do Guild quests for the useful items :/

Thieves guild in Skyrim was ok, and I'm even liking the post-guild on it as well, opens more options for them. I also know you can expand DB, but I never explored that (not playing character with DB done anyways).

I really felt let down by the Dark Brotherhood in Skyrim for the reason I did in Oblivion.

Spoiler
In Oblivion the quest line ends with virtually everyone you know dead. When you finally finish you get a Dark Brotherhood full of faceless nameless assassins that you care nothing about. In fact they just have generic titles instead of names and no personality.

I was really surprised that Skyrim managed to make the same stupid mistake. They go through all this trouble introducing you to this crew of misfit assassins. They all have stories with personalities to match and then what happens? They go and get them all killed. Again. And you're left with two generic and boring Dark Brotherhood initiates that you can take around with you. Boring.

I liked it and perhaps that's because I'm role-playing my same character from OB, so it just made more sense to me that I was chosen the listener after a few quest and that the guild hadn't been successful since my absence or MIA 200 years prior. Really, I was kind of surprised because it's like they made the DB as if I were the reincarnation or the returning listener from OB. It had no problem fitting into my character's story.

I enjoyed the latter quest much more than the first few (with the exception of the initiation quests). I'd say they were on par with the ones in OB.

Overall, it wasn't bad, I'd even say it was good. If this questline had been in OB, few people would be disappointed. It's just that the actual OB questline was really good and that led to higher expectations for Skyrim. They didn't meet them, but they didn't do a bad job either. I do agree in that they could have done better though. I do feel like it needs an add on and I am a bit disappointed that I can't issue contracts of my own and recruit/promote people.

The thing that troubles me the most as someone said above, is they made the same mistake as OB. They killed off all the interesting characters which included the only ones who I liked.

Beth makes great games, but I see a lot of potential in them to make longer and more interesting questlines with greater rewards. I'm not sure what exactly they would have to sacrifice in order to achieve that, but whatever it is, it's for the best.
